About SAFEchild?
SAFEchild, an acronym for Stop Abuse For Every Child, is Wake County’s only nonprofit child abuse prevention agency providing direct services to children and families. SAFEchild annually protects over 13,000 children and empowers more than 2,000 parents through education, support, and intervention programs.
Founded in 1992 by the Junior League of Raleigh, SAFEchild is today governed by a 25-member board of directors consisting of business and community leaders in Wake County. The agency is staffed by 30 full- and part-time professionals and administrative staff, as well as dedicated volunteers assisting with important service delivery and resource development activities.
SAFEchild is supported by an annual budget of approximately $3.3 million, which is anticipated to grow in the future. SAFEchild recently moved into a new 20,000-square-foot home that unites all of its services and staff in one facility and provides meeting space for the community.

What will you do as the SAFEchild Development Assistant?
The Development Assistant is a key member of the Development Team advancing the organization’s mission by executing a development plan focused on diversified revenue and increased community engagement. The position requires a willingness to become well-versed and comfortable with the facts about child abuse and neglect while embracing SAFEchild’s mission and programs. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and communication with donors, staff, volunteers and all constituents of SAFEchild is a fundamental part of the position. General duties include donor data organization, donor stewardship, grant management, and special event assistance when needed. The person in this position will gain mastery of the donor database and ensure accurate donor information is regularly communicated to the executive director, development director, development manager, and marketing and communication coordinator.
The Development Assistant is a 24-hour a week position and reports to the Development Director. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Donor Relations and Data Management
- Manage constituent and donation entries to ensure consistency, prompt acknowledgment/reporting ability, and accuracy in all records including grant awards.
- Create donor reports for weekly income reports, mailings, donor information, and various donor segments, etc. as needed by the Development and Executive Directors, Development Manager and Marketing and Communications Coordinator.
- Reconcile donations and gifts with the Finance Department, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting.
- Manage the credit card processing third-party software- Salesforce and Click and Pledge.
- Preparation of donor profiles and meeting briefs for Executive Director and Development Director.
- Scheduling and preparing documents for fund development committee meetings and funder site visits.
- At the request of the Development Director resolve donor payments issues, when applicable.
- Manage Board of Directors information, including paperwork, pledge information and other BOD data.
- Assist development team with stewardship of donors in all sectors.
- Reconcile grant payments with the Finance Department, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting.
- Manage grants calendar, tracking application and reporting deadlines.
- Assist in the execution of SAFEchild special events and other development activities.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum of three years of verifiable experience in donor database and/or customer relationship management software. Experience with Salesforce and Click & Pledge is a plus.
- Excellent computer skills and work experience with Microsoft Suite (especially Excel and Word), Salesforce, and Click & Pledge (or similar donor database).
- Great attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently with little administrative support.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain donor relationships on behalf of the agency.
- Demonstration of professionalism in all aspects of work; ability to set priorities, multi-task, and meet deadlines.
- Ability and willingness to work daytime, some weekend and evening hours.

Salary is commensurate with SAFEchild’s budget and the requirements of the position.
