DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER

Jubilee Home, located in the Historic Hayti neighborhood in Durham, NC, works to create safe, trauma-informed spaces that allow individuals the opportunity to show up authentically, step into bravery, and open the door for healing and transformation. Inspired by SAMHSA’s 8 Dimensions of Wellness, Jubilee Home takes a holistic approach to support individuals as they seek sustainable independence and joyful liberation. Through peer-led case management, weekly wellness programming, and a therapeutic physical environment, Jubilee Home seeks to be a haven for those impacted by the criminal legal system.
As Jubilee Home’s budget continues to grow, we are seeking a full-time Development and Communications Manager to support the Executive Director in developing and implementing a multi-year strategy for expanding the network of friends and investors in this work and to ensure that all components of development operations align with Jubilee Home’s core values and development philosophy. This individual will work closely with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and other staff members to cultivate relationships, raise funds, and increase the organization’s visibility within the community. This role requires a high level of maturity, integrity, professionalism, and commitment to personal wellness, along with high initiative to develop a deep understanding of all aspects of Jubilee Home.
Description of Duties and Responsibilities:
Fundraising and Development (70%)
- Support in the development of a comprehensive fundraising plan to meet the annual operating budget and support reserve growth, inclusive of all aspects of a diversified fundraising strategy, including but not limited to: the annual fund, major gifts, special events, corporate sponsorships, volunteer engagement, and foundation stewardship.
- Create and manage an annual development calendar, including execution of specific action items, for a variety of stakeholder relationships, such as:
- Past, current, and potential individual donors
- Foundation representatives
- Corporations
- Elected officials
- Media contacts
- Partner organizations
- Government grants
- Build Jubilee Home’s prospect research capacity by supporting the design of a systematic approach to identifying and qualifying both individual and institutional prospective supporters
- Analyze the interests of donors and prospects to support preparation of individualized solicitation strategies, including grant applications, site visits, and other donor engagement opportunities
- Lead donor stewardship efforts, including grant reporting and acknowledging donations promptly and creatively, ensuring donors feel valued and informed about how their contributions are making an impact.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date donor records, tracking contributions and engagement.
Marketing and Communications (30%)
- Develop and implement strategies to enhance Jubilee Home’s brand identity and ensure messaging aligns with the mission of the organization
- Collaborate with team to create compelling and consistent content for newsletters, social media, website, and promotional materials that highlight success stories, programs, and fundraising needs.
- Manage the organization’s social media platforms to engage with supporters, raise awareness, and keep the community informed.
- Work with team to support planning, coordination, and implementation of all development events
- Represent Jubilee Home at community events and foster partnerships with local businesses, faith-based groups, and other nonprofits to build awareness and support for the organization.
Qualifications and Competencies:
- Minimum of two years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, or communications, with a track record of successful grant writing, donor engagement, and event management.
- High level of personal commitment to the mission and values of Jubilee Home
- Prior grant writing experience, with priority given to candidates with prior government funding experience
- Successful project management experience with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written)
- High expectations for consistent follow through both as relates to self and others on team
- Inclusive, empathetic worldview and demonstrated skill working across lines of difference
- Experience working in a small nonprofit or social services organization is a plus.
Compensation:
- This is a hybrid (based in Durham, NC) full-time position (35 hrs/week). Salary begins at $56,000 in addition to health, vision, dental, and life insurance, a 10% employer matching retirement plan, and a YMCA membership
- Three weeks paid vacation per year, in addition to sick leave, paid maternity/paternity leave, and a one month paid sabbatical every seven years.
