About Raleigh Area Land Trust:

Raleigh Area Land Trust (RALT) increases affordable housing opportunities in Raleigh and Wake County by offering shared equity homeownership opportunities to lower income residents. RALT’s mission is to protect neighborhoods from the affordable housing crisis, ensuring that lower income individuals and families can afford to live in their community while preserving lasting affordability for generations using the Community Land Trust (CLT) model.

 

RALT is the only CLT operating in the Raleigh/Wake County area. In an effort to protect long-term affordability and access to housing in Raleigh and Wake County, RALT was established to bring the nationally successful CLT model to the area. RALT works to expand affordable homeownership opportunities for homebuyers with low- to moderate-incomes (50-80% Area Median Income) so that they are able to live or remain in communities most affected by displacement.

 

Position Description:

RALT seeks an experienced affordable housing leader to expand, lead, and manage our affordable homeownership and stewardship program. As Director of Homeownership and Stewardship Services, you will have full responsibility for the development and execution of all program-related activities at RALT. This includes the development of outreach and stewardship programs to support a growing affordable homeownership portfolio and the design and delivery of educational programs to ensure homebuyer success.

 

You will be responsible for advocating for homeowner needs, facilitating community groups, building and maintain relationships with lending and supportive services partners, and marketing RALT’s offerings to prospective homebuyers and the community at large.

 

This full-time position reports directly to the Executive Director.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Management:

  • Develop and implement policies, systems, and procedures that enable low- and moderate-income families to become homeowners.
  • Develop outreach programs to market RALT’s offerings to those seeking affordable housing solutions.
  • Identify barriers to homeownership faced by people of color and others without family homeownership history; develop solutions to overcome these challenges.
  • Design educational programs to prepare and support homebuyers, ensuring their success in maintaining and managing their homes.
  • Facilitate community groups and produce presentations to engage community members and stakeholders.
  • Support the formation and operation of homeowners’ associations.
  • Manage cases of homeowners at risk of foreclosure, working to prevent loss of home or equity.
  • Lead homebuyer outreach, financial education programs, and neighborhood partnerships to support community stabilization.
  • Enhance homeowner engagement with RALT as long-term partners in affordable housing.
  • Plan and implement new programs or initiatives that align with RALT’s expansion plan, identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with partner organizations, lenders, and other stakeholders supporting affordable homeownership.
  • Oversee funder compliance and reporting, including city and county occupancy certifications and other grant requirements.

 

Transaction Supervision and Support:

Provide technical expertise and manage homeowner-related transactions, including:

  • Drafting and managing purchase and sale agreements.
  • Providing application and purchase support to buyers.
  • Managing RALT’s waitlist of potential homebuyers.
  • Coordinating with lenders, funders, and government agencies on policies and contracts, with a strong understanding of the mortgage lending process and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Managing real estate transactions in partnership with outside expertise.
  • Analyzing transaction and homeowner data to improve processes and increase positive outcomes.
  • Working with community partners such as DHIC, Inc. and CASA NC to continue programmatic relationships.

 

Data Collection and Documentation:

  • Ensure accurate and complete data entry into RALT’s CRM system (Salesforce)/HomeKeeper with support from administrative coordinator, tracking homeownership program from outreach to closing.
  • Maintain high-quality data for decision-making, compliance, and reporting purposes.
  • Keep RALT's impact data updated for national databases and other reporting requirements.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in affordable housing, community land trusts, or other asset-based community development scenarios.
  • Experience with program development in the field of affordable housing, including the creation and delivery of outreach and educational programs.
  • Familiarity with the mortgage lending process, the lending community, and the regulatory requirements surrounding it.
  • Understanding of the Community Land Trust (CLT) model and its application to affordable housing.
  • Self-starter with a passion for providing affordable homeownership at scale.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and addressing barriers to homeownership.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a team player in a small, flexible team environment.
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to manage complex transactions.
  • Excellent communication skills, including writing, presentation, and facilitation of community groups.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite, and Salesforce.

 

Location: This is a hybrid position, with 3 specified days per week in the RALT office currently located in the co-working space at 301 S Swain St, Raleigh, NC, 27601.

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this position is commensurate with experience, with an expected annual salary range of $65,000-$70,000. RALT offers a comprehensive benefits package, including employer paid health insurance, 401k matching, and a generous leave policy.
