Overview of Position – The Executive Director is responsible for the promotion of the mission and vision of Well of Mercy to both internal and external constituencies. The role is anexempt position.
Role Description:
- Stewards the charism, vision, and principles of the Sisters of Mercy and promotes the Catholic Mercy identity of Well of Mercy.
- Provides leadership, direction, and supervision to fully implement the mission of Well of Mercy in accordance with the organization’s Bylaws.
- Carries out the policies, procedures, and strategic goals set by the Board of Directors.
- Serves as an ex-officio, non-voting member of the Board of Directors.
- Reports to the Board of Directors, with frequent communication with the Board Chair and Executive Committee.
- Recruits, orients, supervises, trains, evaluates and rewards staff in accordance with Board policies and guidelines.
- Maintains communication with the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas and, with the Board Chair, acts as the liaison to the Corporate Members and their Regional Director.
- Promotes the Critical Concerns of the Sisters of Mercy - non-violence, racism, immigration, concern for women and reverence for the Earth - throughout Well of Mercy’s ministry.
- Serves as advocate, ambassador, and spokesperson for Well of Mercy by cultivating relationships with individuals, organizations, and the media.
- Serves as the Chief Development Officer.
General Responsibilities:
- Maintains official records and documents, and ensures compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
- Provides leadership in developing program, operational and financial plans in collaboration with the Board of Directors and staff.
- Ensures that job descriptions are revised or developed as needed, annual performance evaluations are completed, and sound human resource practices are in place.
- Works collaboratively with staff to direct, delegate and execute the activities and services of Well of Mercy.
- Encourages the development of the talents of staff members in ways that contribute both to the individuals’ and Well of Mercy’s growth.
- Assists in recruiting volunteers as needed. 0
- Manages all financial transactions and contractual agreements.
- Prepares annual operating budget with guidance from the Board’s Finance Committee.
- Oversees the management of guest hospitality, and land and facility maintenance, to ensure an optimally functioning facility.
- Oversees orientation programs for Board members and staff, inclusive of Well of Mercy’s history and traditions and the charism and values of the Sisters of Mercy.
- Identifies current and future needs of Well of Mercy and submits recommendations for action to the Board of Directors in a timely manner.
- With the Director of Development implements and oversees comprehensive fundraising and marketing plans.

- Vision sufficient to read standard text, read a computer monitor, and drive safely.
- Ability to speak and hear sufficiently, to communicate clearly, and to be understandable in person and over the telephone.
- Ability to stand, sit, walk, stoop, and bend routinely.
- Manual dexterity to use hands, arms, and shoulders repetitively to operate keyboard, to write, etc.
- Body strength sufficient to lift and transfer at least 25 lbs.
- Ability to interact professionally with persons from a variety of backgrounds.
- Ability to work nights and weekends, if/when required.

Qualifications desired:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- 5+ years of successful experience in retreat, spirituality, or religious non-profit ministry
- 5+ years of supervisory experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Financial acuity
- Development and marketing skills
