Duties and Responsibilities
The Executive Director shall be responsible for the management and oversight of all services, activities, and standards of the agency. He/She will be responsible for the fiscal management of the agency, and will work diligently to identify and secure funding that will support and maintain the agency’s services and programs. He/She will be responsible for the recruitment and hiring of all staff and will implement and comply with all legal requirements and standards related to state and federal human resource requirements. He /She will serve as an advocate in the community and establish and maintain collaborative partnerships with community resources to effectively meet the needs of families consistent with the agency’s mission and strategic plan. Lead the agency to achieve its mission and goals and to sustain and expand the services to families with a focus on the agency’s vision. Focus on providing quality and effective services that yield positive outcomes for the families served. The Executive Director will report directly to the President of the Board of Directors, and will serve at the pleasure of the Board.
Job Qualifications
Minimum of bachelor’s degree in human services or related field, with master’s degree preferred. 10+ years experience in working with children and families in a non-profit and/or human services setting. Strong grant writing skills, Good organizational and people skills. Supervision experience in managing multiple programs and tasks.
Specific Responsibilities
Program Development and Delivery:
- Ensures that the agency has a long-range strategy which achieves its mission, and toward which it makes consistent and timely progress.
- Provides leadership in developing program and organizational plans with the Board of Directors and staff
- Meets or exceeds program goals in quantity and quality.
- Evaluates how well goals and objectives have been met
- Demonstrates quality of analysis and judgment in program planning, implementation and evaluation.
- Shows creativity and initiative in creating new programs
- Maintains and utilizes a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field
Administration and Human Resource Management:
- Divides and assigns work effectively, delegating appropriate levels of freedom and authority.
- Establish and makes use of an effective program manager team
- Maintains appropriate balance between administration and programs
- Ensures that job descriptions are developed and that regular performance evaluations are held and documented
- Ensures compliance with personnel policies and state and federal regulations on workplaces and employment
- Ensures that employees are licensed and credentialed as required, and that appropriate background checks are conducted
- Recruits and retains a diverse staff
- Ensures that policies and procedures are in place to maximize volunteer involvement
- Encourages staff development and education and assists program staff in relating their specialized work to the total program of the organization
- Maintains a climate which attracts, keeps and motivates a diverse staff of top quality people
Community Relations:
- Serves as an effective spokesperson for the agency; represents the programs and point of view of the organization to agencies, organizations and the general public
- Establishes sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community group organizations
Financial Management and Legal Compliance:
- Assures adequate control and accounting of all funds, including developing and maintaining sound financial practices
- Works with the staff, Finance Committee and the board in preparing a budget; see that the organization operates within budget guidelines
- Maintains official records and documents, ensures compliance with federal, state and local regulations and reporting requirements (such as annual information return; payroll withholding and reporting, etc)
- Executes legal documents appropriately.
- Assures that funds are disbursed in accordance with contract requirements and donor designation
Fundraising
- Supports realistic fundraising plans through the sub-committee
- Meets revenue goals, ensuring that adequate funds are available to permit the organization to carry out its work
- Successfully involves others in fundraising
- Establishes positive relationships with governments, foundation and corporate funders
- Establishes positive relationships with individual donors
Board of Directors:
- Works well with board officers
- Provides appropriate, adequate, and timely information to the board.
- Provides support to board committees
- Sees that the Board President, and board, when appropriate, is kept informed on the condition of the organization and all important factors influencing it
- Works effectively with the board as a whole.
