Summary: Family Services seeks a motivated, intuitive, driven, and experienced fundraiser to join our team as Major Gifts Officer. This position plays a vital role by managing a portfolio of high-level gift prospects and donors supporting agency revenue goals. Reporting directly to the Director of Development, this position will identify, cultivate, solicit, steward, and retain individuals to develop a transformative giving moves management program that ensures Family Services is a top philanthropic priority for our supporters. This position additionally provides planned giving support for the Family Services Foundation. The Major Gifts Officer is a new role and will join the agency during an exciting time as we anticipate the public launch of a $10M capital campaign in support of building a new emergency domestic violence shelter in Forsyth County.
Essential Functions:
- Manage an assigned portfolio of prospects and current donors at the major gifts level ($5,000+), identifying, cultivating, stewarding, retaining, and upgrading donors in support of unrestricted and restricted funds to meet or exceed agency revenue goals.
- Collaborate with the Board of Directors, volunteers, division colleagues, and other development professionals to effectively design and execute gift strategies and solicit prospects and donors.
- Oversees prospect identification, creation of meeting briefs, request for support materials, gift agreements, and impact documents for ongoing donor cultivation as applicable to build a strong agency affinity.
- Collaborate with executive leadership, directors, and other divisions to identify key giving opportunities and strategically assess individual donor philanthropic capacity and inclination during routine Development donor meetings.
- Conduct personal visits, expecting to be out of the office at least 50%, and engage with donors and prospects as part of moves management.
- Manage major donor cultivation and stewardship events as applicable to the annual fundraising strategy.
- Track and enter relevant donor information into the database, updating contact reports as appropriate.
- Oversee individual gift recognition implementation and major gift stewardship program.
- Analyze and report on revenue generation progress by generating monthly and quarterly reports.
- Coordinate with the Director of Development on annual reports and quarterly communications as part of comprehensive donor impact and awareness messaging.
- Supports the Foundation’s planned giving program by including planned gifts in donor visits and builds an annual planned giving stewardship program to increase booked revenue.
- Provide support for third-party fundraising events, speaking engagements, and tabling initiatives as appropriate.
- Researches and stays current on fundraising best practices and new trends in the industry, making recommendations for implementation as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree plus 3-5 years’ successful fundraising experience in a nonprofit organization or equivalent combination of skills and experience.
- Proven track record in securing five and six-figure gifts from individual donors, or an equivalent set of skills and experience leading to marked revenue generation growth.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Active listening skills to support building authentic relationships with people from a variety of backgrounds.
- Ability to distill complex ideas into easily understood concepts and communicate those to a variety of audiences.
- Adept at using judgement for the best interests of the agency, keeping all revenue initiatives mission-forward.
- Proven ability to work independently, manage time successfully, prioritize work, and maintain confidentiality.
- Knowledge of donor database software (Raiser’s Edge or similar).
- High technical literacy and knowledge with a proven understanding of fundraising reporting methodologies and analytics.
- Ability to foster an inclusive, inquisitive, transparent office culture founded on mutual respect and teamwork.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
Preferred:
- Advanced experience in major gifts management, with experience developing transformational gifts up to seven figures.
- Capital campaign solicitation experience with a proven major gift proposal success rate.
- Experienced fundraiser knowledgeable in planned giving vehicles or affiliated credentials.
