Manager of Donor Relations

The Manager of Donor Relations is an essential member of the Girl Scouts North Carolina Coastal Pines’ Fund Development Team, responsible for ensuring the overall success of the council’s fundraising operations. This role involves developing cultivation, solicitation, and recognition/appreciation strategies for prospects and donors, in line with the Council’s fund development strategy, and in collaboration with key team members.

Day in the Life:

Donor Stewardship and Cultivation:

  • Build strong relationships with a diverse group of constituents, including donors and potential donors.
  • Manage events related to The Daisy Chain, The Fund Development Committee, and The Juliette Gordon Low Planned Giving Society.
  • Successfully manage multiple projects, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Develop and oversee fundraising publications' language, design, development, and production.
  • Serve as the main contact for development-related questions.

Prospect Research and Solicitation:

  • Oversee prospect research and management, of individual, corporate, and foundation prospects and donors.
  • Research potential funding sources to align with council strategic priorities.

Database Oversight:

  • Ensure system accuracy through quality control, act as the IT liaison, and maintain vendor relationships for databases like Raiser’s Edge NXT, Classy, Stripe, and future partners.
  • Serve as the fundraising liaison with the Finance Department and auditors.
  • Assist and support the acknowledgment process for various types of contributions to the Council.

Support All Aspects of the Council’s Fund Development Strategy:

  • Support the Chief Development Officer in strategic and operational planning.
  • Track progress towards goals, prepare reports on fundraising to present to directors, and recommend revisions to the fundraising plan as needed.
  • Contribute to the execution of the team’s cultivation, recognition, and stewardship program strategies, policies, and protocols.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the Girl Scout mission and programming, including the Strategic Plan, to ensure proactive support of the fund development team and overall Council efforts.
  • Manage the Fund Development Associate.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5-7 years working experience in fundraising, donor relations, or a similar role. A bachelor’s degree will be considered.
  • Must be comfortable speaking before groups and making requests for funds; preferably in the not-for-profit sector.
  • Must have proven skills in written and oral communication; and effective organizational, interpersonal, prioritization, judgment, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be skilled in effective volunteer and staff leadership, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with volunteers and staff.
  • Demonstrated donor development database experience, preferably with Raiser’s Edge.
  • Advanced computer analysis skills to create documents, spreadsheets, timelines, and reports will be extremely important and frequently need upgrading.
  • Ability to come into the Raleigh Service Center 1-2 times a month for team meetings.
  • Requires driving a council vehicle or a personal vehicle; therefore, the individual must complete a motor vehicle history check, possess, and maintain a current, valid driver's license, and self-report any vehicle violations.
  • Must be able to work flexible schedules (evenings and weekends).

  • Must be willing to obtain GSUSA membership ($25 annually) upon employment.
