Medical Coordinator

The Medical Coordinator is a medically trained member of the SAFEchild Advocacy Center (SAC) staff, responsible for ensuring the appropriate medical screening, evaluation, and treatment of pediatric patients ages 0 to 17, who may have experienced maltreatment. This position requires commitment to SAFEchild’s mission of eliminating child abuse and empowering families. This is a full-time 36-hour a week position working under the direction and supervision of the SAFEchild Advocacy Center Director. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Child Medical Evaluations (CME)

  • Partner with SAC Director to ensure that all medical elements meet the National Children’s Alliance Medical Accreditation Standard
  • Works alongside MD/APP to provide medical care and assessment of children
  • Review referrals to ensure all needs related to the medical evaluation (such as medical records, photos) are obtained in advance
  • Manage medical aspects of examinations, including assisting SAC medical providers with preparing a child for physical examination, taking medical history, obtaining vital signs, assisting provider with exam, chaperoning during exam, and aiding with photo documentation and logging of pertinent findings
  • Maintain adequate inventory of medical supplies, laboratory supplies and equipment. Ensure that medical equipment is in good working order
  • Responsible for the care and maintenance of medical exam room

 

Labs

  • Assist SAC Medical Team with laboratory requisition forms, specimen collection/labeling, specimen processing, and specimen pick up by courier service
  • Maintain communication with lab about current process/procedures and recommendations
  • Monitor lab results, notify SAC Medical Providers of lab results and upload results to patient file

 

Administrative

  • Follow up on hospital and primary care provider phone calls when needed
  • Assist the SAC Medical Team with communications with collaborating partners and other medical providers.
  • Ensure accurate completion of coding and signing of patient forms for case management and insurance purposes.
  • Responsible for including and updating billing forms for patients attending a CME
  • Understand and uphold HIPAA laws

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • BSN, LPN, or MA licensed professional who is certified in phlebotomy in the state of North Carolina
  • A minimum of three years in a related field
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to present information concisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with our community partners
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently
  • Demonstration of professionalism in all aspects of work; ability to set priorities, multi-task, and meet deadlines
  • Computer skills and work experience with Microsoft software including Excel, Word, etc
  • Ability to work a Monday through Friday schedule

  • Proven history in building quality relationships with an ability to relate with sensitivity to people from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to know and follow HIPAA to ensure patient confidentiality
  • Ability to understand and process the magnitude and sensitive nature of cases seen at the advocacy center
  • Ability to work side by side with doctors and nurse practitioners in a clinical setting
  • Being a key part of the medical team to support patients going through types of abuse or maltreatment
  • Able to prioritize patient comfort and well-being within the healthcare setting
  • Sincere compassion and concern for children and families.
