Position Overview: North Raleigh Ministries (NRM) equips families and individuals in crisis with the resources and skills they need to achieve stability. This is accomplished through evidence-informed and community-based programs aimed at fostering hope, purpose, and well-being. The Volunteer Coordinator plays a critical role in managing NRM’s volunteer programs, fostering relationships with volunteers, and ensuring that volunteer efforts align with the organization's mission. This position focuses on volunteer recruitment, onboarding, retention, and recognition across all NRM programs, including the NRM Thrift Shoppes and the Crisis and Development Center. This full-time (40-hour/week), non-exempt position reports to the Director of Operations and requires strong planning, communication, and organizational skills to cultivate and manage a thriving volunteer program.
Position Responsibilities:
Volunteer Recruitment, Application, and Onboarding - 35%
- Develop and implement a comprehensive volunteer recruitment strategy for the organization.
- Refine and oversee a seamless volunteer application process, ensuring involvement from key stakeholders in the decision-making process.
- Administer and improve the volunteer onboarding process to meet organizational and department-specific needs.
- Design and deliver a unified volunteer onboarding curriculum in collaboration with area leads for both the Crisis and Development Center (CDC) and Thrift Shoppes.
- Collaborate with area leads to ensure volunteers are effectively integrated into their respective roles.
Volunteer Oversight and Relations - 25%
- Maintain an up-to-date volunteer roster and assess alignment with organizational needs.
- Monitor volunteer retention, identify areas for improvement, and adjust strategies as needed.
- Serve as the primary administrator of the Volgistics volunteer management platform, leveraging it to enhance efficiency and oversight.
- Plan and implement volunteer recognition and appreciation programs and events.
Community Engagement and Outreach - 25%
- Represent NRM at community events, volunteer fairs, and outreach sessions to promote the organization and recruit volunteers.
- Foster relationships with key community stakeholders, including nonprofits, churches, and local businesses, to build and grow partnerships.
- Serve as an NRM brand ambassador, actively promoting the organization’s mission and values.
- Plan and execute initiatives to increase NRM’s volunteer and community engagement footprint.
Administrative and Support Duties - 15%
- Track and report on volunteer program metrics, including hours served, retention rates, and onboarding outcomes.
- Assist in coordinating schedules and workflows to ensure smooth volunteer operations.
- Support other NRM staff in volunteer-related activities as needed.
- Be available to work nights and weekends as needed to support events, activities, and organizational needs.
Position Qualifications:
- Model and live out NRM’s core values: compassion, accountability, respect, and education.
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field with at least one year of post-degree experience in nonprofits or community relations preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g., an Associate’s Degree with 3–4 years of relevant experience).
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage internal and external audiences.
- Strong project management and organizational skills, including time management, scheduling, and event coordination.
- Ability to manage administrative tasks, such as maintaining documentation, coordinating events, and overseeing budgets.
- Proven ability to build consensus, foster relationships, and work collaboratively with diverse groups.
- Experience with volunteer management platforms, such as Volgistics, is a plus.
The starting salary for this position is $42,500.
