Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator

Summary:  Families Together is a community-based non-profit dedicated to ending family homelessness in Wake and surrounding counties. We believe every family deserves a home and children should never have to wonder where they’re going to sleep at night.

The Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator is responsible for planning and implementing the Volunteer Program and coordinating a community outreach strategy to engage and deepen support from key constituencies.  This position recruits, supports, and coordinates volunteers; coordinates in-kind donations and organizes donation drives; and coordinates community outreach. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
 

Volunteer Coordination

  • Develop and implement an annual volunteer outreach plan to include recruitment, support, appreciation, prospective donor identification and strategies to deepen relationships with existing volunteers.
  • Recruit and manage volunteers (individuals and groups) who provide ongoing support of routine tasks, programmatic activities and select special projects.
  • Work with staff to identify specific activities, programs and projects that best serve programmatic and operational needs and that can be satisfactorily completed by volunteers. Maintain ongoing, updated lists of volunteer needs. Target and recruit the right volunteers to meet these organizational needs
  • Develop and lead volunteer orientation process and ensure necessary background checks are completed and agency guidelines and expectations for volunteers are understood.
  • Coordinate volunteer projects for groups and individuals and provide on-site guidance for work groups and volunteer-led events with occasional weekend and evening responsibilities
  • Develop and lead presentations to volunteer groups on FT and our role in the community.
  • Ensure data related to volunteer hours, skills, interests, and work performed is recorded accurately and timely in Bloomerang database.
  • Report monthly on volunteer outputs, project outcomes and impact and ensure on track to meet annual goals.
  • Provide opportunities for volunteer feedback, creating and implementing volunteer satisfaction surveys. Evaluate volunteer efforts, satisfaction and feedback and refine program accordingly.
  • Identify and notify Development Director of prospective major donors. Support donor conversion of volunteers.

Outreach and Donations Drives

  • Develop and manage relationships with outreach coordinators at Activate Good, United Way, faith groups, and other third-party volunteer placement entities.
  • Coordinate with team members when help is needed with receipt and intake of in-kind donations.
  • Ensure pantry is stocked with appropriate mix and amount of food and supplies by communicating with Housing and Family Services team to make best use of this resource.
  • Coordinate seasonal and ongoing donation drives (i.e., Summer Book Bag Drive, Fall Holiday Smiles Drive, ongoing Welcome Basket donations, ongoing food donations). Ensure in-kind donations are recorded in database and donors receive accurate, timely acknowledgements.
  • Plan and implement community outreach in coordination with Development Director to support increased visibility of FT in the community.
  • Serve as point person for tabling opportunities and represent FT at outreach events, such as church mission fairs, corporate workplace giving events and State Employee Combined Campaign kickoff events.
  • Contribute to social media, eblast and other digital communications content.
  • Support implementation of two major fundraising campaigns – spring and fall
  • Help plan and implement special events in coordination with DD.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage time and resources well
  • Excellent customer service skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to excel working independently and within a team approach
  • Excellent communication skills (oral, written and visual)
  • Proficiency with MS Office and internet/email tools is essential

Education and Experience:

  • College graduate
  • Two or more years of professional experience, preferably including experience with volunteer and/or in-kind donation coordination
  • Non-profit experience preferred

Schedule/Location:

  • Families Together Office: 908 Plainview Drive, Raleigh, NC 27610
  • Office Hours are 8:30am-5:00pm M-F
  • Some evening and weekend work is required
  • ADA compliant office setting
  • Shared office environment
  • Hybrid schedule with minimum in office 2-3 days a week; this is subject to change
  • Regular local travel is required; must have clean driving record and ability to drive personal and agency vehicle for work related activities
