Operations Manager

Position Summary: Working in close coordination with the Managing Director of Operations, the Operations Manager is responsible for managing the operations and human resources functions of the organization and works to implement the organization’s policies and procedures. The individual in this role is responsible for carrying out organizational operations that meet or exceed organizational standards and industry best practices.

 

Primary Position Responsibilities

  • Human Resources: Manages the organization's day-to-day human resources processes, including hiring and onboarding, benefits management, and the organization of personnel records. 

    • Works with the Managing Director of Operations to facilitate the annual staff review of the employee handbook. Tracks issues with employee policies and makes recommendations. Ensures changes are brought to the staff for approval.

    • Oversees the annual renewal of benefits and open enrollment process for RAFI-USA staff.

    • Serves as the main point of contact with the benefits consultant.

    • Responsible for accurate and responsible management and maintenance of personnel records. Ensures personnel records are accurate, up-to-date, and organized. 

    • Ensures job descriptions are accurate, current, and on file.  

    • Ensures timely and effective completion of performance evaluations. Assists and provides guidance to supervisors with staff performance evaluation process.

    • Assists with  staff recruitment and hiring processes including participating in interviews, reviewing job descriptions, job postings, producing hire letters, and conducting background checks.

    • Conducts new hire orientation training. Works with supervisors to ensure that staff are appropriately oriented to the organization. Ensures that new staff complete all necessary paperwork and are signed up for appropriate benefits.

    • Serves as the coordinator of RAFI’s Human Resources Committee

  • Operations: In collaboration with the Managing Director of Operations and other staff, develops written guides for staff to understand organizational systems and processes and trains staff on these processes; makes recommendations on continuous improvement of processes.

    • Supervises logistics of internalRAFI meetings, events, and convenings including venue selection, menu planning, registration, and contractors. Ensures adherence to meeting, event, and convening budgets. 

    • Supervises the Operations Coordinator and works with them to manage RAFI’s building.

 

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Interest and passion for being a part of a team of committed individuals contributing to a just and equitable food system

  • Strong critical thinking skills, reading comprehension skills, and written and oral communication skills. 

  • Must be a strong project manager and able to manage timelines and activities across projects.

  • Self-starter who takes initiative on projects and can work independently 

  • Team player who works well with staff across the organization

 

Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Experience with human resources management

  • Previous supervisory experience

 

Compensation: Part-time, approximately 20-25 hours per week. The ideal candidate will be able to work approximately 4-5 hours 5 days a week during RAFI business hours (9-5 Eastern).  Hourly rate of $38.26. Part-time employees are able to participate in RAFI’s 401(k) program and paid holidays.

 

Location: Triangle region of North Carolina. Employees are expected to spend 1-2 days in our Pittsboro office weekly.
