Pop Up Markets Coordinator

The Pop Up Markets Coordinator will be responsible for the strategy and management of the overall operations of Pop up Markets in the Wilmington Branch Service area.  The Pop Up Markets Coordinator plans and executes food distributions directly supporting neighbors in need.  In collaboration with other Food Bank staff, they oversee all aspects of the Pop Up Markets program in the Wilmington Branch Service area. This includes identifying gaps in service, building relationships with distribution sites, scheduling events, managing volunteers, facilitating multiple distributions per week, and analyzing data collected to guide programmatic decisions.

This position may be expected to work occasional evenings and Saturdays.

Responsibilities:

Pop Up Market Operations – 40%

  • Facilitate distributions, coordinate volunteers, and manage crowds in an efficient manner that prioritizes safety for all involved parties onsite.
  • Prepare supplies and collaborate with Operations staff to build truck orders prior to distributions.
  • Assist in management of inventory flow to provide consistent quality and availability of good food for distributions.
  • During times of a response to a natural disaster, Pop Up Markets Coordinators will work with agencies and non agencies to distribute food in effected areas that need support.

Data – 20%

  • Track and document distributions, contacts, accomplishments, and potential distribution partner opportunities.
  • Maintain strict customer, staff, and partner confidentiality for all personal information and documentation.
  • Collaborate with staff as needed and to develop a plan to identify gaps in service utilizing ArcGIS software to map and explore relevant data sets.    

Collaboration and Relationship Management – 20%

  • Be knowledgeable of the population and needs of assigned service area. Coordinate state, regional, and local resources as requested, appropriate and available to meet needs as defined in the Food Bank’s mission. 
  • Thoroughly understand the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina (Food Bank), its mission and policies, culture, values, history, key stakeholders, programs, and finances.
  • Work internally with key partners to ensure timely and accurate dissemination of pertinent information.  Serves as main point of contact for the Pop Up Markets program in their area.
  • Engage designated internal and external teams to provide wrap around services and a good variety and thoughtful mix of culturally appropriate food when possible.
  • Collaborate with Network Engagement to assist with transitioning sites out of the Pop Up Markets program.
  • Clearly communicate requirements and policies to sites, volunteers, and any external partners or wraparound services being provided.
  • Support local food distribution and food systems in assigned areas; work with Food Bank staff to support systems. 

Planning & Admin – 20%

  • Organize community food distributions in under-resourced communities, where gaps in service have been identified.
  • Engage internally with Volunteer Engagement team and with external community partners to build volunteer base for distribution support.
  • Engage in the process of food safety and be up to date and trained on all internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Feeding America best practices, and food safety SOPs applicable to this position.
  • Perform other duties requested as appropriate to the position.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, Political Science, or similar discipline required or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
  • A minimum of 2 years of customer service experience is required.
  • An ability to speak Spanish is preferred as working with Spanish-speaking client services, third parties, and direct service providers will be required. 
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office and related programs is a requirement. 
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS mapping software is preferred but not required.
  • Must be able to work with diverse groups of people and have a commitment to social justice. 
  • Valid NC Driver’s License and excellent driving record is needed as the position requires extensive travel throughout the Food Bank’s 34 county service area. 
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and strong time-management skills and perform with little supervision are required. 
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and demonstrated experience in building work teams are required.

Work Environment: 

  • Environment includes administrative offices, applicable warehouse areas, and outdoors
  • The employee will occasionally be required to drive an automobile, as occasional travel within the Food Bank’s 34-county service area, or to professional development opportunities and conferences are required.  Overnight travel may very rarely occur. 
  • The employee will be required to drive an automobile and may need operate a forklift if needed.
  • The employee will be required to interact with Food Bank personnel in the warehouse(s). In doing so, the employee will occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
  • The warehouse and outdoor environments can be extremely cold at times and extremely hot during the summer months.
