Prevention Advocate

Purpose of Position: To reduce new cases of HIV/STIs through targeted outreach, increasing awareness, access and adherence to HIV/STI education and prevention, screening, and treatment options in Guilford County

Primary Tasks:

• Provides health education and counseling during onsite testing clinics
• Assists in answering THP guests’ inquiries about STIs and testing and treatment options
• Identifies, organizes, and administers outreach efforts (off site testing and education sessions) with other Prevention and Wellness team members
• Provides phlebotomy services during on- and off-site testing events
• Provides test results and risk reduction counseling
• Completes all internal and external reporting and documentation required for legal compliance and funding purposes
• Works with Prevention and Outreach Manager to manage and update THP social media accounts used for Prevention outreach
• Pursues any professional development needed to obtain and/or to keep any personal or agency certifications, licenses, and knowledge current in order to ensure quality services are delivered to the community
• Represents THP in the community, both physically in Guilford County and also via social media
• Other tasks as assigned to improve the overall functioning and equity of the agency

In addition to these tasks, every Triad Health Project employee is asked to participate in fundraising activities for the organization. These activities vary and are held throughout the year. Additionally, all Triad Health Project staff, interns, and volunteers are asked to commit to our organizational pursuit of equity, which requires organizational training, reading, and discussion at various times. Outreach and fundraising activities may include evening and weekend hours.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalency
• bachelor’s degree in field appropriate to area of assignment OR
• an equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education
