JOB DESCRIPTION

The Vice President of Programming provides executive-level leadership to support the vision, philosophy, culture, and practices of Verner in two Center-Based locations and Community-Based programs. This position is responsible for ensuring overall excellence in Verner programming, child development, curriculum, and family engagement throughout the centers and all programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participates in and supports a culture of inclusion and belonging
  • Models and moves forward an anti-bias, trauma-informed curriculum
  • Supports the President & CEO in effectively communicating with all stakeholders of the organization, as well as with the faculty and staff, to ensure the comprehensive implementation of high-quality, trauma-informed, and developmentally appropriate curriculum and practices
  • Supervises two Center Directors, Director of Community-Based Services, and Director of Professional Development and Residency Program
  • Serves on the Board of Directors' Program Evaluation Committee, the Verner Leadership Team, and Senior Leadership Team
  • Ensures ongoing implementation of multilingual education and language justice practices within Verner's educational programs
  • Develops and maintains oversight of budget preparation and management for all center-based and community-based programs
  • In collaboration with Program Directors, purchases developmentally-appropriate materials to ensure alignment with the budget and Verner’s educational philosophy
  • In partnership with the Director of Operations, develops and oversees strategies to effectively meet all DCDEE licensing standards throughout both centers
  • Provides ongoing monitoring and adherence to standards and regulations set forth by other local, state, and federal regulatory agencies
  • In partnership with other members of leadership, monitors, coordinates, and ensures the provision of all Verner training, Staff Development Days, and Teacher Workdays
  • Serves on interview teams for prospective staff, as needed
  • Regularly reviews and updates Program Policies & Procedures and Classroom Expectations, ensuring staff have up-to-date manuals at all times
  • Manages the training program for staff as it relates to early education and Verner expectations from onboarding, to deeper orientation, to continuing education and development, in conjunction with HR and appropriate members of the Leadership Team. This includes overseeing training for assessment and screenings.
  • Works in partnership with the VP of Grants & Continuous Improvement and the VP of Clinical Services to plan, implement, and evaluate the Verner Practice-Based Coaching approach to teacher development
  • Ensures all educators are observed at least quarterly and provides written feedback to inform performance reviews and professional development plans for Faculty and Staff
  • Provides specific program-related components in the EHS Program Information Report (PIR), as requested by the VP of Grants & Continuous Improvement
  • In partnership with the VP of Grants & Continuous Improvement, creates and monitors both the annual Training and Technical Assistance Plan for Verner and the EHS School Readiness Plan
  • Monitors program assessment and documentation, sending regular written updates to the VP of Grants & Continuous Improvement, Board Program Evaluation Committee Chair, and Center Directors
  • Maintains working knowledge of Head Start Program Performance Standards
  • Oversees program needs for individualization of services related to curriculum and disabilities for children and families in collaboration with the Verner’s Child Development Team
  • Collaborates closely with the Food & Nutrition Team on supporting Verner’s Rainbow In My Tummy Curriculum and Verner’s healthy food culture
  • Physically able to lift at least 30 lbs., kneel, stoop, bend and sit on the floor to attend to children’s needs
  • Reviews and has knowledge of our assessment process and implementation
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (Master's degree preferred) in Education, Psychology, Business Administration, or another related field
  • 5 years of leadership experience, preferably in the field of education, family services, etc.
  • An understanding of the importance of child care laws and rules by North Carolina Division of Child Development and Early Education (DCDEE) and Early Head Start (EHS) strongly preferred
  • Previous Classroom and Center Director experience is preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrates the ability to use a strength-based supervision approach to support direct reports
  • Bilingual Spanish speaking is a plus
  • Works independently and collaboratively
  • Proficiency in the full Google Suite (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.)
