Marbles Kids Museum is a vibrant, nonprofit children’s museum and IMAX Theatre located in the heart of downtown Raleigh. Marbles has been sparking imagination, discovery, and learning through play since opening its doors in 2007. Marbles’ serves a diverse population of families, school groups, and community organizations through award-winning play-based exhibits, summer camps, IMAX documentaries, feature movies, and special events year-round. Today Marbles ranks among the top family destinations in North Carolina providing learning experiences for children with creative programs, and larger-than-life movies. 

The Opportunity 

At Marbles, we engage our community by collaborating to meet local needs. We offer both museum and offsite programs in partnership with non-profits, municipalities, and schools, especially focusing on vulnerable children and families. We are committed to making our museum experience accessible to all children.

Our access programs ensure every child can imagine, discover, and learn with Marbles. Each year, more than 50,000 children and families enjoy free access through field trips, visits, admission passes, and events for underserved communities.

We are seeking an action-oriented Community Engagement and Evaluations Specialist to plan, implement, and assess community engagement efforts, partnerships, and events, while also overseeing access programs and evaluating our impact.

Job Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners who are mission aligned. 
  • Lead strategic planning for community engagement initiatives that align with Marbles mission and company wide goals in collaboration with leadership. 
  • Plan, develop, implement, and organize community programming, events, and outreach to advance Marbles mission and strategic plan. 
  • Lead new community engagement initiatives to meet community needs and interest, including but not limited to internal programs and offsite program delivery in partnership with non-profits. 
  • Lead and oversee the systematic and comprehensive quantitative and qualitative evaluation of Marbles’ community engagement and access programs. 
  • Enhance the quality of engagement and programs, meet programmatic and funder goals, and identify community needs and interest based on the collected evaluation data. 
  • Oversee and support access programs in collaboration with the Access Learning Engagement Coordinator, including but not limited to play pass distribution, Sensory Friendly Playtime, Family Playdates, Access Field Trips, Family-School Partnership Days, and Kick-off to Kindergarten. 
  • Seek out community engagement opportunities through networking and interacting with community members. 
  • Build a pipeline of new potential partnerships and programs to increase reach and impact through ongoing stakeholder engagement.  
  • Maintains knowledge of trends and best practices for community engagement within children’s museums. 
  • Collaborate with the Development team to identify and steward community engagement funders. 
  • Coordinate community engagement efforts with the Learning Engagement and Guest Engagement team.  
  • Perform all other duties assigned by manager. 

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Recruit, interview, hire, and train new Access Learning Engagement Coordinator. 
  • Oversee the daily workflow of the Access Learning Engagement Coordinator. 
  • Oversee performance, conduct performance evaluations for Access Learning Engagement Coordinator. 
  • Provide ongoing coaching and conduct check-ins with Access Learning Engagement Coordinator to ensure outstanding performance, growth, and feeling valued and supported. 
  • Handles discipline and termination of team members in accordance with company policy and the People Team. 
  • Supervise and train volunteers, interns, and part-time team members supporting community engagement and access programs. 

Experience and Skill Requirements

  • 2 years of supervisory experience preferred. 
  • 3+ years experience planning and delivering innovative, creative high-quality, hands-on, play-based programs serving vulnerable children and families. 
  • 3+ years experience conducting quantitative and qualitative program evaluation.
  • Demonstrated success cultivating and maintaining community partnerships and stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience in a professional setting public speaking and presenting. 
  • Hands-on knowledge of best practices in community engagement and sustainable community relationship building, particularly with families and young children. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple functions, projects and timelines collaboratively across teams in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office. 
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record. 

Physical Demands

  • Walking, standing, stooping, bending, and reaching.  
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.  
  • Must be able to load and unload equipment regularly.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.   

Schedule

  • Flexible schedule required, including weekends, evenings, and holidays. Schedule tends to include one weekend shift a week and occasional evening shifts to support internal and external events.
