                                         Assistant Vice President of Artistic Planning

THE POSITION: The Assistant Vice President of Artistic Planning works with Music Director Carlos Miguel Prieto to develop and enhance the artistic profile of the North Carolina Symphony and leads the cross-institutional program planning team to achieve artistic, audience development, and revenue goals. 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

ARTISTIC PLANNING

  • Responsible for the multi-year planning of Classical, Pops, Young Peoples, and Education programs that fulfill the mission of the Symphony.
  • Build on existing strong relationships with artist managers to engage guest artists and negotiate fees and expenses.
  • Cultivate relationships with guest artists and conductors.
  • Identify diverse array of artists and keep abreast of existing and emerging artistic talents and repertoire.
  • Work closely with the Vice President of Orchestra Operations and CEO to ensure processes, communication, and artistic quality are consistent across all programs and series.

ARTIST COORDINATION

  • Supervises Artistic Coordinator.
  • Communicate artistic plans to Marketing and Development departments, collaborate on and review printed and online content and provide artistic support for special events.

ADMINISTRATIVE

  • In partnership with Vice President of Orchestra Operations and Director of Orchestra Personnel, responsible for establishing the long-range and weekly schedules for the Orchestra.
  • Prepare annual budget and quarterly projections for all appropriate departmental budgets.
  • Complete and submit visa petitions for Music Director and guest artists as needed.
  • Support the creation of NCS digital programming.

OTHER

  • Serve in rotation of Artistic Operations staff duty at rehearsal and concert activities including evenings and weekends.
  • Other duties as assigned.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education or training in orchestral music. Performance experience is a plus.
  • Five years progressive artistic planning experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of orchestral and chamber music repertoire.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Highly organized with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail.

OTHER CONISDERATIONS: 

  • Applicants must be authorized to legally work in the U.S. and independently maintain such authorization. The NCS is unable to sponsor or to assume sponsorship of an employment Visa.
  • Because driving between worksites and to various locations may be a central function of the position, administrative staff must maintain a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation.

Salary and Benefits

This is a full-time salaried position based in the Triangle region of North Carolina. The North Carolina Symphony is currently operating on a hybrid work structure with onsite and remote work (after first 90 days). The benefits package includes health insurance through Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, long-term disability coverage, life insurance, an employee assistance program and voluntary vision and dental insurance.
