About the Organization

Haiti Outreach Ministries (HOM) is a faith-based, Christian nonprofit established in 1989, operating in the United States to support MICECC, their Haitian partner.

MICECC operates on four campuses in Haiti’s capital Port-au-Prince: Cite Soleil, Terre Noire, Repatriote, and Barye Fe. A fifth campus dedicated to Economic Empowerment and Education, called Espwa (hope in Haitian Creole) is currently under development. With HOM’s financial support, MICECC operates three primary schools for 1,400 children, one secondary school for 550 youth, a vocational school for 250 adults, a medical and dental clinic, four clean water treatment/distribution sites, and three churches.

The ministry was founded by Pastor Leon Dorleans who currently is on the HOM Board of Directors. Over the years, Leon, and his wife Jacky, who serves as superintendent of the MICECC schools, have developed and cultivated an extensive network of relationships with churches and individuals across the US.

Leon Dorleans describes the relationship between HOM and MICECC, saying, “they are two sides of the same coin. HOM is the support organization to fulfill the dreams and aspirations of MICECC's vision for the future." HOM solicits contributions and ensures transparency, reporting and accountability for the funds generated from US congregations, donors, foundations, sponsors, and friends who support the ministry’s programs that are led and staffed on the ground in Port-au-Prince by MICECC. MICECC has a full-time Executive Director.

Haiti is the poorest country in the western Hemisphere. A massive earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 struck Haiti in January of 2010 with the epicenter approximately 15 miles west of the capital, Port-au-Prince, leaving the country in ruins. An estimated 300,000 Haitians were killed, 1.5 million people were homeless and the country's strained and inadequate infrastructure was severely compromised. Since that time HOM and MICECC have worked to build up the people and communities they serve. This multi-faceted ministry has achieved much in spite of ongoing food shortages and the recent political and social insecurity.

An important part of HOM’s ministry has been to organize mission trips to Haiti to provide opportunities for volunteers to learn about Haiti and to engage in maintenance and construction activities, medical care, and educational programs. However, due to ongoing insecurity in Port-au-Prince, these trips are on currently hold. We look forward to the day when trips to Haiti will be possible.

The highly engaged and active Board of Directors is searching for an Executive Director to provide leadership and vision; financial and operational oversight; coordination and expansion of fundraising activities; program evaluation guided by measurable outcomes; enhanced communication and volunteer management.
