Position Overview

The North Carolina Center for Afterschool Programs is seeking a new full-time Program Manager for Resilient Afterschool Programs to be based in Western North Carolina. The Program Manager for Resilient Afterschool Programs will serve as lead of the Western North Carolina (WNC) After 3PM Collaborative; plan and lead ongoing virtual and in-person meetings and capacity-building sessions for member agencies of the WNC After 3PM Collaborative; coordinate WNC After 3PM Collaborative working groups, shared professional development, and shared services; serve as point person for the new Resilient Afterschool Programs initiative in collaboration with the North Carolina Center for Resilience and Learning; design, adapt and deliver professional learning programs, opportunities, and resources that foster reflection and growth while advancing trauma-informed practices and leadership capacity for partner afterschool providers in Western NC; create a regional community of practice focused on resilience for Western NC afterschool providers, structuring a cohort model for collaborative learning that will include both virtual and in-person opportunities; and directly lead training and coaching  with participating afterschool educators and leaders. 

 

Primary Job Responsibilities
This Program Manager will report to the Director of the North Carolina Center for Afterschool Programs, and will also work closely with the Senior Program Manager in Western North Carolina with the NC Center for Resilience and Learning to implement Resilience and Learning Center models and strategies in afterschool programs in Western NC. This position will be located in Western North Carolina and the employee will work remotely. Some travel (25-50%) required within western NC region to program sites and to the location of training and services being offered. Personal vehicle required; mileage is reimbursed; occasional travel to the Public School Forum’s office in Raleigh. 

Primary duties assigned to this role will be:  

  1. Serve as primary point of contact for the Western North Carolina (WNC) After 3PM Collaborative.
  2. Maintain regular communication with WNC After 3PM Collaborative’s out-of-school time program partners about WNC After 3PM Collaborative meetings and activities; capacity building, professional development, and coaching opportunities provided by NC CAP, the NC Center for Resilience and Learning, and other partners; and other information, resources and and opportunities relevant to the Collaborative.
  3. In partnership with Dogwood Health Trust event staff, plan and facilitate three in-person WNC After 3PM Collaborative meetings annually.
  4. Identify, plan, create, coordinate and/or host professional development opportunities for WNC After 3PM Collaborative. Shared professional development opportunities will include NC CAP and NC Resilience and Learning created and facilitated opportunities as well as external opportunities that the Program Manager for Resilient Afterschool Programs identifies and supports for Collaborative participants.
  5. Maintain a shared professional development calendar for the WNC After 3PM Collaborative.
  6. Host and facilitate WNC After 3PM Collaborative working groups. Working groups are created in response to needs identified by WNC After 3PM Collaborative members.
  7. Design and deliver professional learning programs, opportunities, and resources that foster reflection and growth while advancing trauma-informed practices and leadership capacity for afterschool providers in western NC.
  8. Create regional communities of practice, structuring a cohort model for collaborative learning that will include both virtual and in-person opportunities for participating afterschool educators and leaders. 
  1. Directly provide training, coaching, and technical assistance to afterschool providers in trauma-informed strategies and resilience.
  2. Write and create content for professional resources, guides and toolkits that will be used for professional learning and for broader dissemination to afterschool providers in western NC.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate virtually in NC CAP team meetings every other week. 
  • Participate in monthly meetings with the NC Center for Resilience and Learning Western Team, led by the Senior Program Manager in Western North Carolina. 
  • Participate in monthly team huddles with all staff at the Public School Forum of North Carolina. 
  • Travel to the Triangle area to support NC CAP’s annual Synergy Conference, North Carolina’s statewide conference for afterschool providers, and other annual afterschool advocacy events. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

Qualifying Experience

  • Professional Development: Experience creating and leading high-quality professional learning opportunities, demonstrating effective presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Adult Learning: Strong understanding of adult learning practices and tactics.
  • Afterschool Background: Candidates should have 5+ years experience with and have demonstrated a commitment to afterschool, summer, and expanded learning. The ideal candidate will have prior experience as an educator in an afterschool, summer, or expanded learning setting, with a strong understanding of the diversity of afterschool and summer learning environments. Afterschool and summer leadership/administrative experience preferred.
  • Trauma and Resilience: Passion for trauma-related topics, with foundational knowledge of ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences), trauma-informed schools, and resilience-building research.
  • Equity and Inclusion: Commitment to and experience in implementing equitable best practices to support traditionally underserved, under-resourced, and historically marginalized student populations.
  • Collaborative Experience: Ability to work well with diverse groups, including out-of-school time educators and other professionals, parents, students, school/district staff, and partner organizations. Proven ability to collaborate closely with external partners and stakeholders.

Technical Skills

  • Technology Proficiency: Strong proficiency with Google Drive and its suite of applications (Docs, Sheets, Slides).
  • Computer and Social Media: Competence with computer, web, and social media tools for communication and content dissemination.
  • Proficiency with learning management systems and platforms such as Zoom, Canvas, etc.

  • Writing and Content Creation: Strong writing skills and experience creating engaging content and slides.
  • Communication and Relationship-Building: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for building strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Organizational Skills: Exceptional organizational abilities, including being a self-starter, paying close attention to detail, and comfortably learning new things.
  • Team Collaboration: Thrives in a team-driven, collaborative work environment.
  • Remote Work: Comfortable and proficient in working remotely. Due to travel requirements to training and program sites, ideal candidate will reside in Buncombe, Haywood, Henderson, Madison, McDowell, or Transylvania counties.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Advanced degrees preferred.

Compensation and Benefits:
This is a full-time (12-months/yr) position. The salary range for this position is $60,000 to $65,000 annually, dependent upon experience. We are open to candidates seeking 75-80% of a full time schedule with a prorated salary. We are hoping to have a start date for this position by May 1, 2025. The Public School Forum offers the following benefits: competitive compensation commensurate with experience, a generous 401K retirement plan, vacation/sick leave , and parental leave policy, 10 paid holidays in addition to the week between Christmas and New Year’s, and a shortened (32 hours/Fridays off) summer workweek from Memorial Day to Labor Day, term life insurance, and employer sponsored group health insurance with access to dental, vision, short and long term disability plans, and employee assistance program.
