The Director of Finance & Operations serves as the organization’s lead for financial management, human resources administration, and technology coordination. This role ensures that myFutureNC maintains strong fiscal stewardship, efficient operations, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The Director is responsible for all aspects of financial management and works with the myFutureNC Professional Employer Organization (PEO) Insperity to manage HR functions.
This position requires a balance of strategic leadership and hands-on execution, with a focus on clarity, accuracy, and efficiency.
Finance Leadership (60%)
- Lead all financial operations including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger management, and reconciliations.
- Manage receipt, disbursement, and financial reporting of grant funds in compliance with donor and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and monitor the annual budget in partnership with leadership; provide regular financial reports and forecasts.
- Oversee annual audit, IRS Form 990, public support test, and other required filings.
- Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit best practices.
- Lead the Audit & Finance Committee with timely, accurate reports.
Human Resources Management (25%)
- Partner with Insperity (PEO) to administer payroll, employee benefits, and HR compliance.
- Manage onboarding, offboarding, job postings, and vacancy announcements.
- Track and administer time-off policies and employee leave.
- Ensure compliance with employment laws, confidentiality standards, and HR best practices.
- Serve as a trusted partner to leadership to ensure positive employee experience.
Operations (15%)
- Oversee organizational insurance policies, contracts, and required operational filings (e.g., charitable solicitation licenses, lobbying activity reports).
- Ensure smooth organizational operations by managing vendor relationships and contracts.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field required, CPA or advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in financial management, ideally in a nonprofit setting.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, budgeting, financial reporting, and nonprofit compliance.
- Experience managing HR processes and working with a PEO (preferred).
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
Hybrid: The position is based in Cary, NC and requires a minimum of 2 in-person office days per week. Exceptions may apply on an as-needed basis with advance notice provided. 40 hours per week. This is a full-time, permanent position.
This position requires limited travel, but typically within North Carolina.

Salary Range: $80,000-$120,000. Benefits competitive with public and private industry including but not limited to health and savings plans.
