Food Pantry Manager

Position Overview

The Food Pantry Manager plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth and effective operation of NRM’s Food Pantry. This position oversees daily pantry operations, manages food sourcing and safety compliance, and provides leadership and support to volunteers. The Food Pantry Manager ensures every client receives a positive and consistent experience while visiting the pantry.

Position Type: Full-Time, Exempt (40 hours per week)

Key Responsibilities

Food Pantry Operations & Compliance (45%)

  • Oversee daily pantry operations to ensure a safe, organized, and welcoming experience for clients.
  • Maintain ServSafe certification and ensure compliance with all food safety and partner requirements.
  • Monitor food quality, inventory, and temperature logs, and manage donation tracking, supply orders, and waste minimization.
  • Coordinate partnerships and logistics with the Food Bank, Interfaith Food Shuttle, and retail partners.
  • Train to drive NRM’s box truck and provide coverage for food pickups/deliveries as needed.
  • Provide coverage for client food pantry services as necessary and participate in team meetings to uphold compliance and strategic goals.

Volunteer Engagement & Training (45%)

  • Recruit, train, and support pantry volunteers and volunteer groups.
  • Foster a positive, mission-centered volunteer experience and ensure consistent scheduling and communication.
  • Assist with quarterly volunteer meetings, ongoing training, and volunteer appreciation efforts.

Community Partnerships & Program Growth (10%)

  • Maintain compliance with partner contracts and participate in required trainings.
  • Grow community partnerships to support food sourcing and volunteer engagement.
  • Represent NRM at agency and community events, occasionally on evenings or weekends.
  • Stay current on best practices to strengthen pantry operations and community impact.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated alignment with NRM’s core values: compassion, accountability, respect, and education.
  • Experience in nonprofit, community service, or client-facing environments.
  • Experience leading volunteers or teams in a service setting.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with inventory or food safety procedures; ServSafe certification preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and remain calm in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft and Google Suite; experience with Apricot or similar databases preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and stand for extended periods.
  • Comfort driving a box truck or a willingness to learn.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Minimum Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
