    Wondering what types of election-related activities your nonprofit can and can’t do between now and this fall's elections? You’re not alone; the North Carolina Center for Nonprofits has been fielding many questions about what’s legal and what’s advisable. Here’s a quick take on some of the most common questions we’re hearing.

  • This spring and fall, voters across North Carolina will go to the polls to elect new members of Congress, the state legislature, judges, and local officials. These elected officials will be entrusted to make decisions on laws and policies of critical importance to the work of every NC nonprofit. This webinar will provide an overview of the 2022 election for nonprofits, including:

  • As part of the 2018-19 state budget (S.99), legislators included earmarked appropriationsof one-time funding to 148 nonprofits in key legislative districts. These appropriations total nearly $22 million dollars.The Center has compiled a list of these earmarks.

     

  • This summary of North Carolina's lobbying laws for nonprofits covers state statutes and federal requirements for lobbying registration and reporting, as well as restricted activities such as the lobbyist gift ban.
