The North Carolina Center for Nonprofits recently hosted its first in-person Master Class, which was a resounding success. Designed to reconnect alumni of the Center’s Nonprofit Management Institute, the event brought together 12 participants, all eager to network and enhance their nonprofit management skills.

Participants shared their highlights:

  • Peer connections are important in the nonprofit sector. Many participants expressed a desire for more networking time with fellow cohort participants.
  • Longer learning formats allow for deeper dives into material. Several attendees wished the class could have been extended to two days instead of the 4-hour session.
  • One-on-one time is invaluable for personalized questions. The training was well received, with participants appreciating the opportunity to engage with Dr. Pamela Palmer, experienced nonprofit consultant and a facilitator with both the Nonprofit Management Institute and the NPMI Master Class.
  • Nonprofit learning opportunities are invaluable. There was a strong call for more frequent sessions.

Participants also shared suggestions for improvements within the Nonprofit Management Institute:

  • Capacity Building and Board Engagement: Participants expressed a need for a deeper understanding of capacity building and engagement strategies for boards.
  • Staff Management with Limited Funds: Managing staff effectively with limited resources was another key area where attendees sought more insights.
  • Consultations and Digital Content: Adding a personalized consultation with Dr. Palmer and providing digital content for easy access were also recommended.

The NPMI Master Class was not only timely but also a powerful reminder of the important work that lies ahead for nonprofit leaders. The positive feedback and constructive suggestions will help us shape future sessions, ensuring they continue to meet the evolving needs of nonprofit professionals.

Thank you to Dr. Palmer and all the participants for making the Master Class a memorable and enriching experience!
