Building on a legacy that began in the 1950s, the Psychoanalytic Center of the Carolinas (PCC) promotes the wellbeing and resilience of individuals, families, and communities through psychoanalytic education, practice, and service. PCC offers post-graduate training programs in psychoanalysis and psychotherapy, continuing professional education for clinicians, and a community of like-minded members across the Carolinas.
Position Overview
We are seeking a versatile Communications Manager to direct and expand PCC’s outreach strategy. This is a dynamic role focused on creative internal communications and strategic community outreach.
The ideal candidate will collaborate with PCC members and staff to produce engaging content for training programs, craft targeted messaging for membership recruitment, manage our monthly newsletter and members’ listserv, and oversee the administration of our WordPress website. We are looking for someone with proven digital marketing skills, experience collaborating with volunteers and staff, and a deeply aligned with mission-driven communications.
Location & Travel Expectations: While daily work is remote, this position requires in-person attendance twice monthly for staff meetings in the Durham/Chapel Hill/Raleigh area, as well as occasional evening committee meetings and weekend events/programs.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a talented Communications Manager to direct and expand the PCC’s communication and outreach strategy to engage our current members and reach new audiences of mental health professionals. The Communications Manager will collaborate with PCC members and staff to create engaging promotional content for psychoanalytic training and continuing education programs, create messaging for outreach and membership recruitment, and share relevant ideas and information through our monthly newsletter and listserv. The Communication Manager also serves as the administrator of the website and listserv. The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience with WordPress platforms and a deep understanding of mission-focused communications, branding, and messaging.
Primary Responsibilities:
Communications, Marketing & CE Outreach
- Outreach & Audience Growth: Develop and execute strategic marketing campaigns specifically designed to reach, engage, and recruit mental health professionals, graduate students, and clinicians for PCC’s continuing education and post-graduate training programs.
- Membership Campaigns: Partner closely with the Membership Committee to plan and launch targeted campaigns aimed at recruiting new members, boosting member retention, and promoting the benefits of PCC membership.
- Content Creation: Write and produce compelling, mission-aligned content for email newsletters, blog posts, promotional materials, and targeted campaign emails.
- Community Connections: Identify and build collaborative relationships with peer organizations, allied mental health non-profits, and academic institutions to cross-promote events, share relevant content, and expand PCC’s reach across the broader regional healthcare community.
- Accreditation Compliance: Draft and review all marketing materials to ensure full compliance with the American Psychoanalytic Association and the PCC’s continuing education accrediting bodies.
- Analytics & Strategy: Track and analyze key outreach metrics (email open rates, click-throughs, event sign-ups) to continually refine messaging and maximize program registration.
- Committee Liaison: Serve as the primary staff liaison for the Communications Committee while coordinating initiatives with the Membership Committee and others, as needed.
Website Management & Maintenance
- WordPress Administration: Act as primary manager for the PCC website, ensuring all information is accurate, current, and structured for the optimal user experience.
- Site Maintenance & Updates: Perform routine content updates, manage site pages, troubleshoot layout issues, and ensure smooth navigation across all desktop and mobile views.
- Vendor Coordination: Partner with external web developers and technical vendors to handle higher-level plugin, security, or domain maintenance when needed.
- Course Registration & Event Setup: Build clear, accessible digital landing pages and embedded registration forms for upcoming events and training programs.
Visual Content
- Basic Graphic Design: Create visually appealing, brand-aligned graphics for social media posts, email headers, event flyers, and web banners using accessible tools like Canva.
- Short-Form Video (Optional): Basic video editing skills (e.g., trimming zoom recordings, editing short promotional/educational videos, or creating social media reels) are a strong plus to help highlight faculty and program offerings.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 4 years of experience in a marketing/communications role (or a demonstrated equivalent of professional and lived experience).
- Applicants from both nonprofit and for-profit backgrounds are welcomed.
Specific Skills & Competencies
- Strategic Communications: Proven track record of developing and executing multi-channel communication strategies.
- Technical Proficiency: Hands-on experience with WordPress and Constant Contact is required. Experience with constituent relationship management (CRM) systems and online form builders (such as CiviCRM, and JotForm) is strongly preferred.
- Content & Writing: Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication and comprehension skills.
- Collaboration & Initiative: Works well independently and collaboratively with diverse constituents (staff, board members, faculty, students, and volunteers) to develop engaging content and relevant messaging.
- Mission Alignment: Genuine interest in psychoanalysis, mental health education, or health-related community programs.
- Design Skills: Experience with tools like Canva and/or video editing is a plus.

Salary: $27/hour, 20 hours per week
