Director of Advancement

The Director of Advancement reports to the Head of School and helps develop and implement strategies supporting communication, marketing, development, and community engagement programs. This full-time position combines fundraising, communication and event coordination to help foster a connected, generous, and inclusive community. This position collaborates with staff, parents, alumni families, and other community members to support school-wide engagement and development goals and initiatives.

Role and Responsibilities

Marketing and Brand Management

  • Partner in developing strategy and manage execution of a comprehensive communications plan for the school including digital, print, and website content.
  • Advocate for the school’s brand, including logos, seals, and secondary marks, providing guidance on their appropriate usage.
  • Ensure consistent and unified key messaging across all platforms, materials, and departments.

Communications 

  • Maintain and execute an integrated editorial calendar for each media channel. 
  • Source media content by engaging with faculty/staff and parents to highlight school happenings and individual profiles.
  • Regularly update and maintain all communication vehicles, including email, website, and social media platforms.
  • Provide editorial and writing support for newsletters and other communication channels.
  • Partner with the senior administrative team in managing crisis communications.
  • Manage the coordination, planning, and production of key publications.

Development

  • Serve as Administrative point person to Board-led Development Committee.
  • Support the Annual Fund Campaign (AF) through data management, tracking, and reporting. 
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in the development database.
  • Process and acknowledge all gifts and pledges; prepare and mail acknowledgment letters.
  • Reconcile donations with the Business Office for the purpose of internal control.
  • Weekly data input of donations, pledges, and pledge payments.
  • Compile data for Annual Report and other reporting needs.
  • Ensure donor confidentiality and accuracy in all record-keeping.

Events

  • Play a key role in planning, organizing, and implementing school-wide events.
  • Work with Family Association and manage event logistics, including vendor coordination, catering, volunteer assignments, and timelines.
  • Oversee event invitations, communications and materials.
  • Oversee on-site event support, including set-up, registration, and day-of coordination.
  • Promote positive relationships among staff, families, alumni, and the broader community.

Qualifications

Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing or a related field
  • Flexible and adaptable;  proactive, team-oriented professional with a hands-on work style and the ability to work independently with minimal direction.
  • Experience crafting social media and website strategies and content
  • Exceptional project management skills with a keen attention to detail, strong time management, and the ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to interact comfortably and effectively with all school constituencies, including senior administrators, trustees, donors, faculty, and families.
  • Experience coordinating events.
  • Experience with budget tracking and expense reporting is a plus.
  • Proficient in database management and comfortable learning new tools and systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with the highest level of discretion and integrity.
  • Availability to work occasional nights and weekends as required for events and meetings.
