Reports to: Director of Congregational Life
Temple Beth El is seeking an organized, relational, and mission-driven Engagement and Programming Coordinator to help more people find connection, belonging, and meaningful Jewish community.
The right person will help turn programs into pathways for connection, volunteers into partners, and members into a more deeply engaged community. Working closely with the Director of Congregational Life, clergy, staff, lay leaders, and volunteers, this person will help coordinate the systems, relationships, communications, and follow-through that make congregational life feel warm, welcoming, and well-run.

The Engagement and Programming Coordinator will play a key role in that work by supporting congregational programs, strengthening volunteer coordination, assisting with member engagement, and helping ensure that programs are thoughtfully planned, clearly communicated, well-executed, and followed up on.

The Engagement and Programming Coordinator will support the Director of Congregational Life in developing and implementing engagement and programming strategies, coordinating volunteers, assisting with congregational events, supporting TriBEs and Cohorts, and using systems and data to strengthen engagement across the congregation.
This role requires warmth, initiative, strong communication, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple moving pieces in a fast-paced, relational, and mission-centered environment.
What Success Looks Like
In the first year, the successful candidate will:
Strengthen engagement and belonging.
Help prospective, new, and existing members navigate Temple Beth El’s programs, services, traditions, and opportunities for involvement so that more congregants feel personally welcomed and connected.
Support excellent congregational programming.
Coordinate program details, materials, logistics, volunteer needs, communications, and follow-up in partnership with the Director of Congregational Life, clergy, staff, and lay leaders.
Build a more effective volunteer culture.
Help recruit, schedule, communicate with, track, and follow up with volunteers so that lay leaders feel supported and staff have clear, reliable systems for volunteer engagement.
Use data and tools to improve congregational care.
Use Temple Beth El’s engagement, database, and project-management tools to track participation, volunteer involvement, follow-up needs, and key engagement metrics that help staff make informed decisions.
Support TriBEs, Cohorts, and leadership groups.
Serve as a staff liaison and support partner for assigned Cohorts, TriBEs, Board committees, and advisory groups by helping prepare materials, track next steps, communicate clearly, and maintain momentum.
Contribute to a warm, collaborative staff culture.
Bring a can-do attitude, strong follow-through, good judgment, discretion, and a team-oriented spirit to a relational, mission-centered workplace.
Key Responsibilities
The Engagement and Programming Coordinator will:
- Support the Director of Congregational Life in developing and implementing engagement and programming strategies.
- Build relationships with members, prospective members, volunteers, and lay leaders.
- Coordinate volunteer recruitment, scheduling, communication, tracking, and follow-up.
- Help plan, prepare for, attend, and support congregational programs, services, events, and community-building initiatives.
- Work with the Communications team to ensure programs and events are publicized accurately and effectively.
- Contribute program stories, photos, updates, and content ideas for social media and other communication channels.
- Support existing TriBEs and help congregants connect with new TriBE opportunities.
- Serve as a liaison to assigned Cohorts, committees, and advisory groups.
- Help prepare meeting materials, track follow-up items, and communicate with lay leaders.
- Work with the Program Operations Manager to ensure programming needs are tracked, communicated, and met.
- Represent Temple Beth El in broader community and Shalom Park initiatives as assigned.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and other Congregational Life team responsibilities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
This role includes regular evening, Shabbat, holiday, and Sunday hours based on the congregational programming calendar.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who combines warmth, organization, initiative, and follow-through. Strong candidates will be able to manage details without losing sight of people, support programs while building relationships, and help turn good ideas into well-executed experiences.
The ideal candidate will bring:
- At least two years of experience in community engagement, programming, volunteer coordination, nonprofit work, religious/community institutions, or a related field.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust with a diverse range of people.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and project-management skills.
- Comfort managing multiple priorities, deadlines, and changing circumstances.
- Good judgment, discretion, and the ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
- Comfort using technology such as Microsoft Office, Canva, WordPress, Monday.com, membership databases, CRM systems, project-management tools, and social media platforms.
- Familiarity with Jewish culture, holidays, traditions, lifecycle events, or Jewish communal life, strongly preferred.
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, preferred.
Work Environment and Requirements
This role operates primarily in a professional office and congregational environment, with occasional outdoor work for special events. The position requires regular use of office equipment and the ability to lift or move items up to 20 pounds. Occasional overnight travel may be required.
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation will be $40,000–$50,000 per year, commensurate with experience. Temple Beth El offers an attractive benefits package for eligible full-time employees.
