Organization Overview
The North Carolina Voter Project (“NCVP”) is a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) nonprofit, founded in 2021, dedicated to strengthening democracy in North Carolina. Our Mission is to be a trusted and innovative organization with a transformative impact on North Carolina by increasing voter participation through education, as well as the identification, improvement, and implementation of evidence-based methods.
Our Vision is to discover and promote new approaches to voter participation so that full registration and voting is achieved in North Carolina.

We are committed to reaching eligible voters in underserved communities, young people, and others in North Carolina who are driven by nonpartisan values, such as economic opportunity and pro-democracy principles, including free and fair elections, the rule of law, civil liberties, and citizen participation.
With a current team of approximately 10 employees and contractors, NCVP is at an exciting growth stage. We are seeking a mission-driven leader to guide our core work in voter registration, turnout, and civic education.
Position Summary
The Executive Director (“ED”) is the chief executive of NCVP, responsible for leading the organization's strategic direction, operations, and impact. Reporting directly to the Chairman of the Board, the ED will champion our mission by driving voter registration and turnout initiatives, fostering civic education, and building a high-performing team. This role emphasizes hands-on leadership in program delivery while collaborating with the Board on governance and oversight.
The ED will be based in North Carolina with an eventual relocation to the Raleigh-Durham area.
Key Responsibilities
● Strategic Leadership and Mission Execution: Develop and implement strategies to
advance NCVP's mission, with a primary focus on scaling evidence-based voter
registration drives, turnout efforts, and civic education programs. Identify innovative opportunities to increase participation among underrepresented communities.
● Team Development and Management: Lead, mentor, and grow the team of ~10 staff and contractors, emphasizing recruitment, performance, and culture aligned with our Values. Foster a collaborative environment that prioritizes competence, creativity, and discipline.
● Program Oversight: Oversee day-to-day operations of voter engagement programs, ensuring they are data-driven, effective, and compliant with election laws. Monitor impact through metrics like registration rates and turnout percentages.

● Board Collaboration: Partner with the Board and Chairman on governance, policy, and long-term planning. Provide regular updates on progress, challenges, and opportunities.
● External Relations: Build partnerships with community organizations, government
agencies, and stakeholders to amplify NCVP's reach. Represent the organization in
public forums, media, and events to enhance our trusted reputation.
● Financial and Operational Stewardship: Work with the fundraising lead and Board to ensure sustainable operations, including budgeting, resource allocation, and
compliance. Support grant reporting and donor stewardship as needed.
● Innovation and Evaluation: Promote creative, evidence-based methods to evolve our approaches, conducting evaluations to refine programs and achieve our Vision of full voter participation.
Qualifications
● Experience: 5+ years in 501(c)(3) nonprofit leadership, preferably in voter engagement, civic education, or community organizing. Proven track record in scaling programs and driving measurable impact (e.g., increased voter turnout).
● Skills: Strong strategic thinker with excellent communication, relationship-building, and project management abilities. Data-savvy, with experience using analytics to inform decisions. Passionate about democracy and North Carolina's civic landscape.
● Personal Attributes: Embodies NCVP's Values: passionate about the mission, trusted in stakeholder interactions, competent in execution, creative in problem-solving, and disciplined in operations.
● Education: Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in public policy, nonprofit
management, or related field preferred.
● Location and Other: Must be based in North Carolina (relocation to Raleigh-Durham area within 12 months). Ability to travel statewide as needed. Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all work.
Compensation
Competitive salary based on experience, in the range of $95,000 - $125,000 annually, commensurate with qualifications and aligned with North Carolina nonprofit benchmarks for organizations of similar size and scope.
