- Mission-Driven Focus: Passion for the arts, creative reuse, environmental education, and community enrichment.
- Deep Leadership Experience: Proven success managing a staff of 10-20+ in a retail or nonprofit setting, with strong systems thinking and people development skills. Strong preference to individuals with experience leading a diverse team.
- Major Fundraising Capability: Demonstrated experience cultivating individual donors, securing major gifts, managing grant portfolios.
- Local Engagement: Ability to develop relationships in the Piedmont Triad area to support fundraising, board recruitment, and partnerships.
- Interest and/or Experience in the Arts and/or Environmentalism: An interest in arts education or creative programming and environmental work, with the ability to connect community engagement, environmental awareness, and artistic expression.
Qualifications
- Education - Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s degree or experience in nonprofit leadership preferred.
- Non-Profit experience - 5+ years in the field.
- Leadership and Management - experience in managing a diverse staff and strong financial and organizational skills needed.
- Fundraising - Proven success in leading fundraising campaigns, major donor cultivation, corporate partnerships, and grant writing.
- Supervision experience - Staff supervision experience required. Experience with a unionized workforce is helpful.
What you will do:
In relations with staff, the Executive Director will:
- Oversee key departments: currently retail operations & marketing, education & outreach, and warehouse/donation management, supervise team of 3-4 managers
- Lead talent management, including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, development, and termination and offboarding of staff
- Collaborate with the Board of Directors to manage Human Resources needs and ensure alignment with organizational values and legal requirements
- Maintain a climate which attracts, keeps, and motivates a diverse, committed, and high performing staff
In strategic leadership the Executive Director will:
- Lead the development and execution of a long-range strategic plan that aligns with the mission and positions the organization for sustainable growth
- Stay informed of trends and developments in nonprofit leadership and management, creative reuse, and arts and environmental education
- Serve as ambassador of the organization’s mission through clear, inspiring communication to internal and external stakeholders including staff, board, volunteers and donors.
In budget and finance, the Executive Director will:
- Have strong financial management and planning skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making, and reporting
- Secure and steward sufficient funds to sustain and expand the organization’s mission-driven programs and operations
- Ensure transparency, accountability, and responsible management of the nonprofit’s resources
In center operations, the Executive Director will:
- Provide oversight and guidance for daily operations of the Creative Reuse Center, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and organizational mission
- Foster a thriving volunteer program by cultivating meaningful relationships with community partners, and providing strategic oversight, structure, and support
- Work with the Board of Directors to maintain official records and documents, and ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
- Demonstrate a proactive leadership style marked by reliability, initiative, and passion
