Who we are looking for: Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC) is seeking a Medical-Legal Partnership (MLP) Program Manager to support the day-to-day operations of MLP Program. Reporting to the Project Director, the Program Manager helps oversee program implementation, strengthens and sustains partnerships with health care providers, and ensures high-quality, client-centered service delivery. 

Why this role matters: The MLP Program Manager plays a critical role in advancing the effectiveness, integrity, and impact of the MLP Program while ensuring compliance with Legal Aid protocols, ethical standards, and grant requirements.

What you will do:

  • Help to oversee the daily operations of our MLP Program.
  • Collaborate with our MLP partners to “co-build” our partnerships, including setting and revising MLP goals, policies, and procedures.
  • Participate in standing meetings with the MLP Strategic Planning team and other MLP-related meetings.
  • Monitor for new MLP referrals, contact referring health professionals if additional information is needed prior to beginning intake, and with consent, provide timely updates about the status of work on behalf of MLP applicants and clients, and, with consent report referral and case outcomes to MLP referring health professionals. 
  • Ensure that intake for MLP applicants conforms with Legal Aid protocols, including, e.g., completing conflict checks, entering MLP referral data into Legal Server, “closing the loop” with MLP health professionals to confirm that we have received the referral, ensuring that MLP applicants are contacted on a timely basis, documenting whether MLP applicants and clients consent to sharing outcomes with the health professional/MLP partner who provided the referral, that staff document all MLP-related data in LegalServer, and assist with MLP intake as needed.
  • Provide training and engage in other capacity-building activities with and for MLP referring health professionals.
  • Provide community outreach and education about Legal Aid of NC and our services to other health professionals and prospective MLP partners.
  • Serve as primary contact for “de-identified consults” with MLP health professionals who are not sure whether a patient’s need might fit within Legal Aid of NC’s priorities.
  • Support advocates assisting MLP clients to provide holistic, client-centered, trauma-informed services.
  • Assist with the MLP Continuous Quality Improvement (“CQI”) plan that helps to monitor, track and report data related to MLP outcomes, identify service gaps, enhance our MLP workflows and processes, and inform the evaluation of the MLP Program.
  • Adhere to the highest professional and ethical standards, grant requirements and Legal Aid’s case handling policies, procedures, and standards of practice. 
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities to support the MLP Program.

What you will bring to Legal Aid of North Carolina:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, public policy, social work, or other human-services fields.
  • 1-3 years of work experience in human service field or with nonprofit organizations.
  • A commitment to the mission and values of Legal Aid of North Carolina, including equity and justice.
  • A passion for serving low-income clients and ability to establish rapport and work with applicants, clients, staff, and community partners from a wide range of ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to work efficiently, cooperatively, and professionally as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent public speaking and training skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • A passion for and commitment to community education and engagement.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and, as necessary, ability to travel for MLP-related meetings.
    • Preferred Qualifications
      •  Graduate degree in social work, public health, human services, or related fields. 
      • Spanish language skills strongly preferred. 
      • Familiarity with Canva, PowerBi, or coding languages.
