Who we are looking for: The statewide Fair Housing Project is seeking a full-time Fair Housing Paralegal and Outreach/Education Coordinator. The ideal candidate is passionate about housing justice, highly organized, and motivated to support clients facing housing discrimination.
The Paralegal and Outreach/Education Coordinator will support attorneys and clients, manage case files, assist with investigations and legal research, and coordinate outreach and education initiatives with community partners. Occasional travel may be required.
Why this role matters: The work performed by the individual in this role will support Legal Aid attorneys and staff who devise strategies and pursue legal remedies to help clients obtain successful outcomes.
What you will do:
- Handle a broad variety of tasks to facilitate the team’s mission of effective, high-quality legal services in housing discrimination law.
- Interview applicants to gather facts and determine eligibility for services.
- Perform conflict checks.
- Obtain documents from applicants and third parties as necessary.
- Create and maintain case files and draft documents and letters.
- Investigate cases, conduct legal research, and provide litigation support.
- Collaborate with the Managing or Supervising Attorney to coordinate and support outreach and education events.
- Develop and maintain professional working relationships with community partners to support education and outreach.
- Provide general support to attorneys and the testing coordinator.
- Communicate effectively with applicants, clients, and office staff.
- Provide information about services and make appropriate referrals.
- Maintain client confidentiality.
- Provide direct legal services to clients under the supervision of an attorney.
- Coordinate with the Managing or Supervising Attorney to provide information requested by funders.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
