POSITION OVERVIEW

The Hospitality and Event Assistant is a part-time employee of Temple Beth El. This position provides reception, administrative support, and customer service to our members and guests on assigned evenings and weekends. As the person who staffs our front reception area Friday evenings, Saturdays, and Sundays, as well as occasional weeknights, the Hospitality and Event Assistant maintains a proactive role as a welcoming, service-oriented team member for the entire Temple, and provides support to all weekend services, programs, and events.  In addition, the Hospitality and Event Assistant at times handles confidential and sensitive information.  The position reports to the Operations Manager but will also take direction from Clergy and other Temple leadership.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be present at Friday night Shabbat, Saturday morning progamming, and Sunday morning Religious School sessions as well as weekend rentals or Temple events, all as assigned.
  • Staff the reception desk in a pleasant, courteous, customer service-oriented manner.
  • Greet and warmly welcome all members and guests.
  • Develop, maintain, and utilize a working understanding of Temple’s systems involved in event and program production, including, among others, A/V, lighting, HVAC, and doors, and provide active support during programs and events.
  • Ensure the building is properly set and ready including lights, HVAC, and sound system, as well as placing required ritual or programmatic items and materials in the proper locations.
  • Work with Temple Maintenance staff to ensure setups are in place including tables, coffee set-up, and refreshments.
  • Communicate directly with the Maintenance Staff for any changes or cleaning needs in the Sanctuary, Social Hall, restrooms and/or other areas.
  • Attend staff meetings, workshops, and other designated meetings and events, as assigned.
  • Maintains the highest quality of courtesy, friendliness and service excellence toward members, visitors, and staff.
  • Understand and support Temple Beth El’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Work effectively with all staff members.
  • Use the ShulCloud calendar system and register congregants as needed.
  • Learns and executes procedures, including opening/closing procedures, emergency procedures, and other procedures related to duties.
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of our contract and the ability to facilitate compliance with our terms.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A high school diploma/GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 3 - 5 years of successful experience in administrative and clerical support, preferred.
  • Previous experience in a guest service or hospitality role is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Jewish customs and traditions or a willingness to learn.

  • Ability to use zoom and other live streaming programs.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in work.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Must display very good organization and time management skills.

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds, move and stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs, use A/V and technology equipment with dexterity requirements.
  • 3 - 5 years of successful experience in administrative and clerical support
  • Availability to work Friday afternoon and evenings, Saturdays, Sundays, and periodic Tuesday or Wednesday, and other days as requested.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

 

COMPENSATION

  • $18-22/hr. position range based on experience and qualifications.
