PURPOSE: The Youth Initiatives Specialist builds and sustains strong relationships with schools, students, educators and community partners to expand youth programming such as Unified Champion Schools (UCS), Unified Sports, and SO College. This role fosters inclusive school environments, cultivates youth leadership,
and strengthens community partnerships to enhance the experience of Special Olympics athletes.
DUTIES:
• Provide leadership and oversight of school-based programmatic efforts for Unified Champion Schools, training adult and youth leaders, cultivating new and supporting current school partnerships.
• Create and support procedures and processes to document progress, success, and problems related to UCS that will inform continuous program improvement, innovations, and growth.
• Serve as the primary liaison between SONC and the Unified Champion Schools across eastern North Carolina.
• Present at conferences, workshops, webinars, and meetings.
• Cultivate new relationships and networks to broaden awareness and deepen the impact of UCS.
• Assist in the implementation of all regional and statewide Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools activities including summits, Unified Sports events, educational activities, and student volunteer opportunities.
• Partner with SONC communications staff to build awareness of UCS.
• Collaborate with Community Programming and Sports staff to align Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools with local program activities.
• Partner with SONC Health Director for any health and wellness initiatives involving youth and school programs.
• Manage the assigned budget.
• Other duties as necessary to meet the needs of the position.
