  • Durham CARES mission is to heal and transform the lives of impoverished Black children by recruiting, training, and mobilizing caring Black
men and women to mentor and care for them. We connect mentors to local youth-serving organizations.

  • The purpose of the PTO is to enhance and support the educational experience at Happy Valley School, to develop a closer connection between school and home by encouraging parent involvement, and to improve the environment at Happy Valley School through volunteer and financial support.

  • To provide pre-K through grade 6 education.

  • The Castalia STEAM Outdoor Center is a space for teaching, learning, and inspiring connections to nature, STEM, and the arts. The center is a living classroom where experiences in the forest and workshops forge connections between people, communities, and the environment.
Our programs and practices embody experiential sustainability and artistic expression. The STEAM center is designed to cultivate a sense of wonder through inspiring artistic activities; freedom through hands-on skill-building; and confidence through positive STEAM experiences.

  • Family Reading Partners is a research-informed program where trained early literacy mentors model reading and conversational techniques for parents that nurture brain development, language acquisition, and the social/emotional health of their children during the critical growth years from birth to five years. We encourage daily book sharing by providing high quality children’s books for families to read and keep at home with the goal that the children are “ready-to-read” when they enter kindergarten.

  • The Exploris School is a diverse learning community that engages students in a challenging, relevant, relationship-based education. Through experiential, project-based learning we empower students to foster a just and sustainable world.

  • Facial paralysis is a devastating condition that impairs facial movements and is associated with significant physical and psychosocial morbidities. Ramsay Hunt Syndrome (RHS) is the second most common cause of facial paralysis, yet diagnosis is frequently missed or delayed increasing the risk of long-term complications. The RHS Foundation promotes patient and physician education to help prevent misdiagnosis and ensure proper treatment. Further, the foundation provides an evidenced-based support network for patients and their families.

  • Our mission is to preserve and help people use the documents of forest history. The Forest History Society identifies, collects, interprets, and disseminates historical information on the relationship of humans and forests, contributing to informed natural resource decision making.
