Over the last two years, the learning and action network Learning for Equity: A Network for Solutions NC (LENS-NC) has focused on increasing educational equity for low-income students and students of color with diagnosed and undiagnosed learning differences. The network is a partnership between nine organizations across NC, MDC, and the Oak Foundation Learning Differences Programme.
This session will focus on 1) how MDC as network convener, through intentional outreach, partnership development, and centering of racial equity and learning differences facilitated the development of a learning and action network focused on racial equity and special education, 2) how the learning orientation of the network invited diverse organizations and individuals to come together and build collaborative and supportive relationships, 3) how the community and resources of the network supported network members to make a difference for their communities and organizations, and 4) the personal impact for network members during a time of significant community and global stress.
Representatives from MDC in Durham, statewide entity Exceptional Children’s Assistance Center, and Rural Opportunity Institute serving Edgecombe and Nash Counties will discuss how the LENS-NC network supported the work of their organizations and helped them bring skills, mindsets, tools, and energy to make a difference in their communities, for their constituents, and in their organizations.
