Business On Board Virtual Workshop

Business On Board is designed to teach professionals and community members what they need to know before joining a nonprofit or grantmaker board, or to give a much-needed refresher to current board members and other organization leaders. Whether you are thinking about committing to board service or have already served on a board of directors, this workshop provides valuable information about board roles, responsibilities, and expectations.

Session 1: October 19

  • The Nonprofit Overview – Learn about the impact the nonprofit sector has on the economy.
    • Speaker: Natasha Lopez-Rodriguez, Director of Capacity Building & Education, Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits + Arizona Grantmakers Forum
  • The Legal Role – Examine the legal duties you take on as a board member, and the obligations that should be fulfilled.

Session 2: October 26

  • The Fundraising Role – Sometimes the hardest part about fundraising as a board member is the ask. Learn why people give their time and money to a cause, and how you can help your organization reach its fundraising goals.
    • Speaker: John Scola, CFRE, SVP of Advancement, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley
  • The Fiduciary Role – The financials of an organization can be overwhelming and confusing but knowing the basics of financial statements will help you understand the position of your organization.
    • Speaker: Lisa Lumbard, CEO, Lumbard Consulting, LLC
