The Opportunity
The CEO leads Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Triangle by shaping strategy and overseeing daily operations to build statewide impact and a strong reputation. This role requires clear direction, collaborative teamwork, and measurable results that advance the organization's mission and values. The ideal candidate combines vision with disciplined execution to drive the future of the organization.
Reports and Relationships
The CEO leads Big Brothers Big Sisters, reporting to the Board of Directors, and is responsible for achieving the agency’s mission, strategy, values, and goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Business Planning and Execution
- The CEO leads business planning and ensures strategies match the organization's strategic direction. Collaboration with the Board and staff is key to achieving goals. Operational choices are based on performance metrics for ongoing improvement.
Fund Development
- A key part of the role is building and maintaining lasting relationships with major donors and funders. The CEO is expected to personally build and maintain these key relationships to achieve the organization’s fund development objectives. This focus extends to fostering stakeholder engagement and fundraising efforts, acknowledging the interdependent nature of these crucial activities.
Business Operations and Office Management
- The CEO works with the Board to set up a $1.1 million budget and create financial strategies that maintain customer satisfaction and service quality. Main tasks include sharing performance metrics, supervising office administration, and managing daily operations prioritizing child safety, mission alignment, and quality.
Human Resources Management
- Leads a group consisting of more than twelve employees, as well as many volunteers and stakeholders, ensuring effective collaboration and unity. Responsibilities include attracting, retaining, and developing talent, creating an engaged and high-performing workplace, and implementing annual objective-setting and evaluation for all staff.
Program Impact
- Leads marketing efforts to recruit volunteer mentors and drives program quality by setting benchmarks, timelines, and prioritizing child safety throughout the organization.
Ambassador and Spokesperson
- The CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters serves as the public representative, fostering relationships at events and in the media to attract volunteers and donors. Advocacy efforts span local to national levels across private and government sectors. Equipped and confident serving as the public face of the organization.
Board Development
- Build an effective Board of Directors that actively support fund development. They ensure independent oversight and accountability for both the Board and themselves. The CEO is required to attend Board and Executive meetings and provide necessary materials.
Key Qualifications
- Minimum of five years of leadership experience within a non-profit organization.
- Demonstrated passion for the mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters.
- Proven track record as a highly organized change agent skilled in leading human resources, budgeting, financial planning, and operations within a $1 million+ organization of 15 or more employees.
- Experience in developing and executing a fundraising strategy focused on growth for an organization of similar size or larger, with at least three years of 10% year-over-year growth.
- Prior experience in improving and modernizing business tools, processes, and procedures.
- Expertise in building collaborative working relationships with community organizations, employees, and volunteers.
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
- Strong public speaking abilities to serve as the organization's face and experience in building its public profile.
- Advocacy experience preferred.
- Undergraduate degree required.
Work Environment
The role is in Morrisville, North Carolina. Flexibility is essential, as evening and weekend events may require attendance. The role involves regular local travel to support programs and connect with donors, along with occasional national travel for conferences and professional development.
The salary range for this position is $110,000 to $125,000. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and include benefits, with reasonable relocation assistance provided if needed.
