Food Pantry Programs Manager

 

Position Overview: North Raleigh Ministries (NRM) equips families and individuals in crisis with the resources and skills they need to achieve stability. This is accomplished through evidence-informed and community-based programs aimed at fostering hope, purpose, and well-being. The Food Pantry Programs Manager oversees all Food Pantry operations at NRM and provides leadership to Food Pantry staff and volunteers to ensure a consistent, safe, and dignified client experience. This role is responsible for staff and volunteer supervision, program oversight and compliance, data and outcomes reporting, and partnership development related to Food Pantry programs. The Food Pantry Programs Manager reports directly to the Director of Programs and plays a key role in strengthening program quality, sustainability, and community engagement. This is a full-time, exempt position requiring strong leadership, organization, and collaboration skills, as well as a commitment to NRM’s mission and values.

Position Responsibilities: 

Food Pantry Staff & Volunteer Leadership (40%)

  • Provide onboarding, training, supervision, and ongoing professional development for Food Pantry staff
  • Manage staff scheduling, PTO, and coverage to ensure consistent Food Pantry operations
  • Facilitate weekly Food Pantry staff meetings to support teamwork, planning, and continuous learning
  • Ensure appropriate staff and volunteer coverage for pantry operations, phone intake, and client services
  • Schedule and retain a sufficient number of active volunteers to meet program needs
  • Facilitate quarterly volunteer meetings and provide ongoing training, encouragement, and recognition
  • Ensure volunteer groups are regularly scheduled and supported to have a positive service experience
  • Interview candidates for Food Pantry program position vacancies, in coordination with the Director of Programs

Food Pantry Program Oversight & Compliance (40%)

  • Ensure a positive, consistent, and client-centered experience for all individuals accessing Food Pantry services
  • Address staff, volunteer, and client concerns or conflicts in a timely and professional manner, escalating to the Director of Programs as appropriate
  • Ensure accurate and timely entry of Food Pantry program data
  • Prepare monthly and annual Food Pantry output and outcome reports
  • Support grant reporting and special projects by gathering required program outcomes
  • Participate in database development related to Food Pantry workflows and outcomes
  • Ensure all Food Pantry programs comply with food safety regulations and best practices
  • Ensure Food Pantry staff earn and maintain ServSafe certification
  • Review and respond appropriately to food recall notifications
  • Maintain contracts and compliance with food sourcing partners, including the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, Interfaith Food Shuttle, and other sourcing entities as needed
  • Oversee and maintain fidelity to food and nutrition-related groups and classes

Partnerships, Strategy & Leadership Development (20%)

  • Grow and maintain food sourcing partnerships to support program sustainability
  • Coordinate food drives with churches, agencies, and businesses, ensuring strong relationships and appropriate follow-up
  • Ensure agency participation in required meetings, trainings, and activities related to Food Pantry grants and contracts
  • Stay informed of best practices and funding opportunities related to Food Pantry programming and make recommendations to the Director of Programs
  • Meet with the Director of Programs to support staff development and program strategy
  • Participate in bi-weekly Program Leadership Team meetings to support communication and strategic plan implementation
  • Engage in ongoing leadership development related to supervision, program management, and organizational effectiveness
  • Represent NRM at agency and community events as needed

Position Qualifications: 

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, public health, nonprofit management, or a related field preferred

Experience: 

  • 3–5 years of experience in program management, food pantry operations, or human services
  • Experience supervising staff and volunteers required

Skills: 

  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, client-focused environment
  • Experience with data tracking, reporting, and outcome measurement
  • Ability to build and maintain effective community partnerships
  • Commitment to client dignity, equity, and trauma-informed practices

Certifications: 

  • ServSafe certification required (or ability to obtain within an established timeframe)

Salary and Benefits

Full-time NRM employees are eligible to receive vacation leave accrual, sick leave accrual, health insurance, life and disability insurances, and a simple IRA company match opportunity.  Pay is direct deposited on the 15th and last day of the month.  In addition to paid time off earned by the employee, additional time includes ten holidays, extended Christmas vacation, and a personal day that each quarter to be used at the employee's discretion.
