Wellness Specialist

This position will implement wellness education and fitness programming for Special Olympics North Carolina (SONC) athletes to ensure that participation in sports includes a positive impact on overall health. The position will manage and develop the health and fitness program while creating a network of health partners to support these efforts. The position will collaborate with SONC various departments and staff to weave wellness into all initiatives. This will also
involve training and working with athlete Health Messengers as these athletes help educate their peers and health partners about the benefits of wellness programming.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
• Develop materials and plan fitness programming for the health and wellness program.
• Identify, schedule, and communicate with potential fitness instructors for training opportunities.
• Work alongside Unified Champion Schools staff to offer wellness programming in the school environment.
• Recruit, provide orientation/training, and monitor activities of athlete Health Messengers.
• Collaborate with local program leadership to support health messaging, fitness and education opportunities during the sport seasons.
• Oversee and coordinate health education activities at local program events.
• Establish partnerships for inclusive fitness opportunities and create a volunteer wellness development team.
• Support Healthy Athlete programming during screening events as appropriate.
• Partner with the sports department to integrate wellness into the sports experience.
• Develop education and incentives for SONC coaches to incorporate health and fitness into their trainings.
• Manage all data and incentive programming associated with wellness efforts.
• Present at various conferences, workshops, webinars, and meetings.
