Camber Foundation is seeking a Grants Manager to execute the administration of grants throughout their entire life cycle, ensuring seamless and efficient procedures that strengthen the Foundation’s philanthropic investments in Eastern North Carolina. This position represents the first of its kind at Camber Foundation, a new and growing philanthropic organization in the state. The early developmental stage of the Foundation means that all team members must be energized by an opportunity to learn, create, and implement new processes that further the growth of the Foundation.

Position Summary 

As Grants Manager at Camber Foundation, you will manage administrative aspects of all grantmaking, facilitating the full life cycle of grants, and supporting the Camber team and Board of Directors in key decisions that serve the people and places of Eastern North Carolina. We seek an individual who is passionate about contributing to our mission and finds value in every step it takes to fulfill it. Many of the functions of the role have been building and operating over our early history, but we are committed to ongoing learning and adaptation. Growth in this position may include direct management of a small portfolio of grants. Preferred qualifications include knowledge of philanthropy and the nonprofit sector, experience with grantmaking, particularly online systems, enthusiasm for efficiency in project management, and a natural affinity for planning that anticipates and removes obstacles. This is a full-time position, reporting to the Director of Community Investment and working collaboratively with the Camber’s Network Officers. The position may be held by someone living in the Triangle area who would work in the Camber Foundation headquarters office in Raleigh, North Carolina, or someone living in Eastern North Carolina, as defined on our website, who would work remotely with occasional travel to Camber Foundation headquarters for business, trainings, and meetings. 

Responsibilities 

The following are intended to reflect the primary responsibilities of the position and the qualifications of the ideal candidate, not an exhaustive list. The scope of work may evolve over time, and other duties may be assigned as needed.

Grants Administration

  • Determine eligibility of nonprofit organizations and other potential grant recipients.
  • Prepare materials to support grantmaking procedures throughout grant life cycle phases.
  • Review proposals for alignment with Foundation goals.
  • Evaluate grant reports for completion and achievement of expectations.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough records of grantmaking activities.
  • Continually assess and refine internal grantmaking procedures for efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Develop and implement new tools to enhance the stakeholder experience.
  • Oversee grant term schedules and communicate with grantees to support success.
  • Prepare grant agreements and financial information for distribution of funds.
  • Collect grantmaking information for timely display on website.
  • Prepare materials that exhibit grant activity and related information for meetings and presentations.

Online Systems Management

  • Manage the operation of the online grants system, including development and implementation of forms, tools, and system workflows to support full administration of Foundation grants.
  • Provide technical support to grant applicants and grant recipients.
  • Maintain communications through the online grants management system.
  • Stay informed of all software updates and continue to seek opportunities for improvements.

    Strategy Support

  • Perform data entry and analysis of trends and outcomes to evaluate Foundation goals.
  • Maintain active knowledge of the nonprofit sector and emerging grantmaking practices.
  • Conduct research relevant to our philanthropic strategy and the development of new interests.
  • Research new opportunities for grantmaking to meet Foundation goals.


    Required Experience & Qualifications

  • An undergraduate degree from an accredited college or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years of related professional experience; Five years or more is desired.
    Experience in philanthropy or the nonprofit sector is preferred.
  • Base knowledge of philanthropy and a commitment to continuous learning.
  • High proficiency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office products, and Adobe.
  • Experience with online grants or data management software, preferably Foundant GLM.
  • Demonstrated excellence in project management, including design, movement, and monitoring.
  • Effective time management skills, meeting goals and deadlines across multiple tasks and projects.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, specifically with respect to process steps and record-keeping.
  • Outstanding organizational skills that support workflow and documentation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills across various modes and audiences.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively with a high-performing team.
    Humility, curiosity, kindness, good humor, and love for North Carolina’s people and places are preferred.
Salary and Benefits

We offer a competitive hiring salary range of $72,500 - $85,000, commensurate with experience.
