Who we are looking for: Legal Aid seeks a full-time Medical-Legal Partnership (MLP) Project Director to serve as an organizational leader responsible for the overall management of our MLP, which trains medical provider partners in clinics across the state to identify their patients' legal needs and make referrals for legal support and runs a dedicated intake team for partner referrals. Why this role matters: This role provides strategic leadership to ensure the delivery of high-quality legal services while expanding LANC’s statewide impact. The Project Director will play a critical role in strengthening our MLP relationships and generating new ones, promoting equitable access to LANC services, enhancing organizational effectiveness, and maintaining our presence as practice leaders in this area in North Carolina and nationwide.
What you will do: The Project Director will:
- Serve as the public contact and liaison for the MLP, overseeing community education, recruitment, and training efforts
- Participate in relevant regional and state-wide coalition groups
- Supervise legal and support staff assigned to the project
- Provide direct legal services as needed
- Recruit, hire, and onboard new team members
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and professional development opportunities
- Conduct performance evaluations, identifying strengths and areas for growth
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and inclusive work culture
- Ensure staff uphold professionalism, dignity, and respect in all interactions
- Manage project grants, ensuring timely reporting and full compliance with funder requirements and LANC policies
- Seek innovative funding opportunities to promote legal services as a tool for addressing social determinants of health needs.
What you will bring to Legal Aid of North Carolina:
- J.D. degree and admission to practice law in North Carolina
- No pending North Carolina State Bar disciplinary proceedings
- Demonstrated commitment to serving low-income and underserved communities
- Expertise in medical-legal partnerships and/or general civil legal services
- Experience leading programs, projects, or statewide initiatives
- Strong leadership skills, including staff supervision and development
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Prior legal services experience preferred
- Experience with grant-funded programs (compliance, reporting, budgeting) strongly preferred
