Position Title: Program Manager for Guilford Apprenticeship Partners (GAP)

 

 

Reports To: Director of Guilford Apprenticeship Partners 

 

 

Overview: 

Guilford Apprenticeship Partners (GAP) is a public-private youth apprenticeship program in Guilford County, and the surrounding Triad in North Carolina. It recruits motivated high school juniors and seniors to become apprentices registered with ApprenticeshipNC and the Department of Labor with a sponsoring GAP employer partner. Students are using the earn and learn model while they earn college degrees and credentials, journey worker certificates in their registered occupation debt-free. 

 

The Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro (CFGG) serves as the fiscal agent for Guilford Apprenticeship Partners (GAP) and as the employer of the GAP team, including the Program Manager. CFGG receives charitable funds from donors, invests and manages those funds, distributes funds to charitable causes, and provides services and grants to nonprofit agencies within the community. Position Summary

The Program Manager is a key member of the Guilford Apprenticeship Partners (GAP) team and is responsible for supporting the planning, coordination, implementation, and continuous improvement of the organization's youth apprenticeship program. Working closely with the Director, the Program Manager helps build and maintain strong relationships with students, employers, educators, community partners, and other stakeholders while ensuring the successful execution of program initiatives and events.

This position requires a highly organized, collaborative, and self-motivated professional who is passionate about workforce development, youth career pathways, and creating meaningful opportunities for students and employers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Program Management

  • Assist the Director in the day-to-day operations of Guilford Apprenticeship Partners.
  • Support the planning, implementation, and evaluation of all GAP programs and initiatives.
  • Coordinate program timelines, calendars, meetings, and communications.
  • Maintain accurate program records, databases, and reporting documentation.
  • Assist with strategic planning and continuous program improvement.

Student and Employer Recruitment

  • Recruit and engage students interested in youth apprenticeship opportunities.
  • Recruit, develop, and maintain relationships with employer partners across multiple industries.
  • Conduct presentations for schools, businesses, community organizations, and other stakeholders.
  • Support onboarding and orientation for participating students and employers.

Event Planning and Coordination

Plan and coordinate all GAP events, including:

  • Community Information Nights
  • Student and employer recruitment events
  • GAP Company Open Houses and Tours
  • GAP Apprentice Graduation and Signing Ceremony
  • Employer/Apprenticeship appreciation events
  • Invitational events
  • Career fairs and workforce development activities
  • Advisory committee meetings and special events

Responsibilities include venue coordination, logistics, scheduling, vendor communication, registration, volunteer coordination, event promotion, and follow-up.

Marketing and Communications

  • Assist in developing and implementing GAP's marketing strategy.
  • Create promotional materials including brochures, newsletters, presentations, flyers, and digital content.
  • Manage social media platforms and communications.
  • Assist with website development, updates, and content management.
  • Help promote student success stories, employer partnerships, and program outcomes.

Grant Writing and Resource Development

  • Assist in researching grant opportunities.
  • Support grant writing and proposal development.
  • Assist with grant reporting and documentation.
  • Help identify sponsorship and fundraising opportunities.

Partnership Development

  • Build and maintain relationships with school districts, colleges, employers, workforce agencies, community organizations, and government partners.
  • Represent GAP at community meetings, conferences, and workforce events.
  • Serve as an ambassador for the organization's mission and goals.

Administrative Support

  • Provide direct support to the Director in all aspects of program leadership and administration.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, meeting agendas, and correspondence.
  • Assist with budget tracking, purchasing, and program documentation.
  • Support board meetings and committee activities as needed.
  • Participate in GAP Leadership meetings and planning. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Education, Public Administration, Communications, Workforce Development, Human Resources, or Technical degree or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Three or more years of experience in program management, project management, education, workforce development, nonprofit administration, or a related field.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience coordinating events and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal relationship-building skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Preferred

  • Experience with youth apprenticeship, career and technical education (CTE), workforce development, or nonprofit organizations.
  • Experience with marketing, social media management, and public relations.
  • Experience working with employers, educational institutions, and community organizations.
  • Grant writing experience. 
  • Website management experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to travel throughout Guilford County and surrounding areas.
  • Ability to lift and transport event materials weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for events and community engagement activities.

Work Environment

This position is based at the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro and includes a combination of office work, school visits, employer visits, community outreach, and event participation. Occasional evening and weekend work is required to support program events.

Salary and Benefits
  • Medical and dental insurance, after 30 days of employment. Should you wish to cover dependents, you may do so at your own cost.

  • Simplified Employee Pension plan. After one year of employment, you are eligible for any                  discretionary contribution approved by the Foundation’s Board. (Currently, the contribution is 7% of                  annual salary.) Eligibility begins with your one-year anniversary of your employment with the                  Foundation.
