2024 Election Tip of the Week: 501(c)(3) Nonprofits Can Engage on Ballot Measures

This fall, North Carolina voters will have the opportunity to decide on whether to amend the North Carolina Constitution to clarify that only U.S. citizens may vote in elections. Additionally, many counties and cities around the state are seeking voter approval of bond initiatives that could help finances local schools or parks. Many nonprofits – along with the people and communities they serve – could be affected by proposed constitutional amendments and local bond initiatives. The Center has developed a ballot measure guide for charitable nonprofits to help answer some frequently asked questions that North Carolina nonprofits have about advocating for or against state constitutional amendments and other ballot measures.
