The session will include perspectives from both sides of the table: insights from a former funder and grantmaker, alongside real-world observations from ongoing work with hundreds of nonprofit organizations and dozens of philanthropic funders and grantmakers across the country. The goal is not to offer generic fundraising advice or unrealistic approaches, but to provide grounded, actionable guidance that nonprofit leaders can actually use. Participants should expect a conversation that is direct, thoughtful, strategic, and immediately applicable to their work.
This workshop will be a highly practical, candid, and pragmatic conversation about what works, what does not, and what nonprofit leaders should realistically prioritize in the current environment. Participants will leave having explored:
- How the funding landscape in the U.S. has shifted
- What funders are paying attention to right now
- Common fundraising mistakes and misconceptions
- What “development” actually means beyond just asking for money
- How organizations can align fundraising with strategy, staffing, and capacity
- Practical ways to strengthen fundraising efforts without burning out staff
